You bought a license when your laptop came with Windows 98. As long as you have the key to type in you don't need to buy new media. I'm sure you can find the required files on the Internets.

You still have the license key either on the Windows 98 book or on the laptop itself, right?

I did a search on eBay using the keywords "windows 98 software" and the first hit was about $25 bucks with free shipping. Sorry to hear about the loss of your discs + key. Always annoying.
