+adamchevy #1 Posted February 13, 2014 I am getting back into collecting nes games, and I would like to know what games Atariage members think are most impressive? When I say impressive I mean gameplay or uniqueness. I would post this on Nintendo age, but I don't belong to Nintendo age.
+Gemintronic #2 Posted February 13, 2014 Games that were impressive were seldom gameplay wins for me (and vice versa). I'll list a few of my favorites: Solomon's Key Bionic Commando Ultima III Super Pitfall Dragon Quest III Crystalis Zelda II
Rex Dart #3 Posted February 13, 2014 Lickle / Little Samson for sure. Super Mario Bros 3 Kirby's Adventure Gimmick / Mr Gimmick Crisis Force Galaxy 5000 Mighty Final Fight I think these are all "later" titles. Shows what devs can do when a system isn't killed off.
+adamchevy #4 Posted February 13, 2014 I have tried to find a copy of Little Samson and its difficult to want to pay 700+ for an nes game. But I have been playing it on an emulator and its a lot of fun and challenging. Crisis Force has also been fun to play but impossible to find in cart form.

Only an idiot would pay 700 for an NES game.

Along the same lines (though not as cost prohibitive), Gun Nac is a great NES shooter where I am very impressed with how much it does and how smoothly it does it.

+adamchevy #10 Posted February 13, 2014 Bio Force Ape.Unreleased proto type that looks pretty weird . But from the reviews I read after my Google search it sounds like a pretty fun game. Sounds more like hype than awesome gameplay . I did find a reproduction cart on eBay.
SiLic0ne t0aD #11 Posted February 13, 2014 I'd recommend the NES Powerpak. I don't have one yet.. But it's on its way.. Every NES game you want on real hardware. My current favorite game is Rc Pro Am Racing II that I just picked up.. Pretty rare (and pricey) game but I love driving games. Can't go wrong with Zelda

Is it much better than number 1? I don't have either so I can't say, but rc pro am 1 goes for under 10.00. That ever drive cart sounds like the way to go.

I've only played II casually. Not remarkable. If you want a better R.C. Pro Am experience I'd get the Genesis version.
CGQuarterly #15 Posted February 13, 2014 Have to second (or third) Solomon's Key. One of the hidden gems of the system. I'll also add Shatterhand, which has awesome gameplay, and awesome graphics and music to match.
fdurso224 #16 Posted February 13, 2014 Get an Everdrive, or reproductions. Only an idiot would pay 700 for an NES game. Well.....How about $699 and lower! Anthony...

But I have been playing it on an emulator and its a lot of fun and challenging. Crisis Force has also been fun to play but impossible to find in cart form. Some one had a official copy on ebay for $550 bucks and that went pretty quick a few days ago! Also someone has one and selling it for $599 with buy it now! Anthony... SiLic0ne t0aD #19 Posted February 14, 2014 No reason for recommending one sd cart over another, just suggesting to get one in general.. Whatever company you choose is up to you but that Everdrive looks better on specs and price. I'll be ordering one whenever they're available again. As far as Rc pro Am... Rc 2 blows the first one out of the water but they're both great games. I got mine for $41 bucks shipped but the label isn't the best.. I'll just get a reproduction label if available. There's way better deals out there on eBay than $65 but you have to be patient. It's worth about $45-50 tops IMHO.
+save2600 #20 Posted February 14, 2014 The most impressive NES game to me is the one that works the first time you plug it in! When mantiquing, so sick and tired of running into Muggles that talk about having to blow "into the game" in order to get it to work. <sigh> Okay, on a serious note - some games BITD that were "impressive" include: Super Mario 2 - when this first came out, WOW! SMB 3 Contra Gradius Tetris or Tengen Tetris - especially in two player mode Dr. Mario (extremely fun little game) R.C. Pro Am 1 or 2 - whichever Micro Machines Final Fantasy - another WOW game Spelunker Bionic Commando Commando ...and that old western game from Capcom ...I know I'm missing a few others, but these still stand out to me.
