AtariBrian #101 Posted February 21, 2014 Playing nes games again regularly has been a lot of fun. Its probably been 20 years. I forgot about the blinking power light thing. Amazing what a q tip and some rubbing alcohol can do. I had a couple friends over last night and we played nes for about 2 hours. I introduced them to the colecovision. What great fun! Take it apart and disable that chip . I cant stand that blinking
Andromeda Stardust #102 Posted February 21, 2014 Just remembered... most of Sunsoft's NES titles had really good music. Check out Gremlins 2 and Batman: Return of the Joker. Sadly, Return of the Joker has spiked in price over 200% because of people using it to create Mr Gimmick reproductions. http://videogames.pricecharting.com/game/nes/batman-beyond-return-of-the-joker
+adamchevy #103 Posted February 21, 2014 I played some clash at demonhead today during lunch. Kind of like little Samson. A lot of 8bit fun.
SoulBlazer #104 Posted February 21, 2014 I played some clash at demonhead today during lunch. Kind of like little Samson. A lot of 8bit fun. This was always a fav of mine back in the day. Vic Tokai made some very good NES games -- Golgo 13 and Golgo 13: Mafat Conspiracy, Conflict, Clash at Demonhead and others.
+adamchevy #105 Posted February 22, 2014 Came home tonight to play some nes after work and none of my games would work, just a flashing red led . Of course I immediately contacted yurkie to get a sweet modded nes on its way. Thanks todd! Still enjoying my yurkievision as well!

That NES is probably as old as Methuselah so it won't hurt to replace the 72-pin connector either. I'm on my third one now... The cheap stuff today never works as good as original stuff, thats for everything.
Andromeda Stardust #108 Posted February 23, 2014 Thats because you replaced instead of cleaned. The cheap stuff today never works as good as original stuff, thats for everything. I tried the boiling water trick, whole nine yards, still didn't work unless I use the Genie. White screen 98% of the time (because the lockout is already defeated I don't get blinky screens). Drop in a new "death grip" pin connector for 10 bucks and I'm good for a few years.
icemanxp300 #109 Posted February 23, 2014 I once layed 10 systems on the floor and made an assembly line. I removed all 10 pins, boiled, baked, and replaced. I also brasso'd the board pins and coated it w/deoxit. Everyone worked like a charm. I also popped the lockouts while they were open. Cleaning the board pins is just as important as cleaning the connector pins. Not sure if you cleaned the board or not but most people don't. It's kind of having a dirty window on both sides, cleaning one side then wondering why you still can't see good out of the window. Some people disagree w/brasso but through many trial an error I know for a fact brasso gives performance results. Plus I coat w/deoxit gold anyhow for protection. When I say board pins I do mean both sides not just the top side of the board.

Andromeda Stardust #111 Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) Whatever. The "death grip" connector loosened over time and my NES works fine 90% of the time with the carts fully inserted and depressed. The 10% it doesn't, Q-tips and alcohol on the cart contacts takes care of that. Since I bought two spares after several pins on the first replacement connector broke, I've still got one more sealed connector to use in a couple years when/if the current one craps out. icemanxp300 #112 Posted February 24, 2014 Whatever. Don't get mad. If you prefer new pins thats fine. Just tossing my preference in the mix.
Andromeda Stardust #113 Posted February 24, 2014 I'm not mad. Besides, my old cart connector got sodomized by Mr Game Genie one too many times...
+adamchevy #114 Posted February 24, 2014 Anyone ever heard of dragonbox? I'm thinking of buying an everdrive from them.
SoulBlazer #115 Posted February 24, 2014 I'm not mad. Besides, my old cart connector got sodomized by Mr Game Genie one too many times... To this day, I have no idea what f-cked up my NES more -- using the Game Genie on it so many times over the years, or spitting on the cart connectors to get them to work.
Andromeda Stardust #116 Posted February 24, 2014 Dragonbox? I get my Everdrives from Stone Age Gamer. I currently own a Gold Famicom Everdrive, Super Everdrive, Harmony cart, and a RetroUSB NES Powerpak. Genesis will likely be next on the list. SAG goes out of stock often due to supply and demand, but if you sign up for email notifications and check regularly, your perserverance will pay off.

Bald_Bull_jr #118 Posted February 24, 2014 There's a sequel named Fire & Ice. And a great GameBoy version - Solomon's Club! Impressive NES games? Wow, so, so many... Am I late to the party suggesting Mike Tyson's Punch-Out?
