There are, however, some Roms that have not been shared yet and may never for that matter.

This always baffles me, as you'd think homebrew developers want their games played by as many people as possible. Even if they choose not to release them the ROMs still get out, so you'd think they'd rather control the release. Pretty much all Coleco homebrew up through 2012, including GnZ, is available if you know where to look.

Yes, but if GnZ run on your console not from the original cart , it will burn progressivly your console's RAM chips bit per bit....

Some behavior if you run it from an emulator... but as the machine where the emulator runs , has lot of more ram it takes just lot of more time. :P

What does a collector care if a copy of a game is made available in ROM format for gamers to play? :?

It really depends on Collectors. To not have the rom available increase the curiosity people about the game, more people want have it just to "try" and see , game is more researched and , the value aside, Collector have the feeling to have something unique that not every body can play. Like Collectors that keep prototype for them and never release the rom for instance. I won't do that personnaly for a prototype i will release the rom publicaly ( if i'm allowed to do that ) , but i can understand.

But i understand also that it is frustrating for gamer. It is why for Gnz 2 if i release it, i make in sort that things be different.

First of all let me begin by saying I respect your decision about not releasing another batch of this game. You made it and you can do what you wish. I understand that.

The only way I got to play this great game was by the incredible kindness of Colecomaster who loaned and mailed me his game all the way from Canada to myself here in the states. Thankfully he received back with no damage or anything.

I guess what I don't understand is that you seem to want everyone to be curious about this game, but not allow anyone else except for the lucky ones that got it, originally, to be able to actually play it.

I also understand that the people that bought this game consider it rare and valuable. But from what I have seen most of these games sell less than 200 copies, so is making another run of say 50 or 100 more going to have that much of an impact? It would still be a rare game so to speak.

I don't buy games because I think they might be valuable someday, I buy them because I want to play them. I don't fault others that do that, it is just not my thing.

You are certainly a person who stands by your word and respects the collectors that wish to have a rare game. But as a fan of this great game, who only got to play it for a week or so, I would buy a copy of this great game in a heartbeat.

I sincerly hope I have not offended you or anyone else by my comments.

Some people just have too much time on their hands...

BTW bb... priceless Shatnerness as usual.

I wish I had too much time...I do have insomnia and a job that keeps me busy 24-7...and the Shatner funnies are a great way of taking a break from the work!

Yikes, Jim...I just clicked on the ADAM Resource link in your signature and it took me to a page that said "Buy Viagra"...

I gotta get those web hits up for advertising dollar purposes! Seeing as most of us are in our 40's on up, a little boost goes a long way.

Aside from that I guess Dale decided to not re-up and Mark_Coleco isn't updating it anymore.

It is not something "i want", it is just factual . :)

50 or 100 more can change lot of thing. I saw some GNZ be sold up to 1500 USD ... somebody even propose me 2000 Euros for a signed version :rolling: . (I refused, i have never sold a GNZ and never signed a game, so if you find signed copy of one of my games they are fake!) . I have never seen a GhostBlaster or a Mario game go so high. And Ghost Blaster and Mario are really awesome!

The 3 , GNZ , Ghost Blaster and Mario are from 2009 , so comparable in term of 'market' life time.

The difference Ghost Blaster Rom is freely available. And Mario has been re-released .

So i really can understand that people who invested in GNZ don't want see a re-release. Mainly the collector who bought it because it was annouced as "Limited" to 25 at start.

A side that , if i consider the number of mails i have received concerning Ghost'n Zombie since 2009, i think we could have sold near 500 . :-o

Geez, by the wording here, it sounds like this was made as a collection investment, not a game to be played and enjoyed.

It was a different time back then, the coleco scene was really only made up of collectors. That is why there are still a lot of protoypes being hidden away by those collectors.

Now it is a different time and many more people are active and playing the games. That is why he admitted he wouldn't do that for version 2. Times have changed be happy they have otherwise you wouldn't get any games because they would all be produced in quantities of 20 - 30 like the past.

Just enjoy the new times and look to the future.

Something to be proud of? Its a great game for sure, but I think the original ghost n goblins on the nes is just as much fun. Its sad the community was so small back then. I think this mentality might keep it small.

it sounds like a singular situation. I'm sure retroillucid and Youki would have different terms on future projects.

You won't find me complaining about it aywhere. I just commented on that statement. I hadn't heard that before, only that he doesn't want more and that general stuff.

Everything Youki has said is correct, he mentions its not something he "wants" but I am sure he enjoys that his game is so sought after, who wouldn't :)

No, at this point I don't think anymore could be made. He's right...people are paying $1500 for it...it's become a homebrew grail and the "rules" said no more would be made, so yes, he does kind of have to follow that.

Releasing the ROM? It's been awhile now, and a lot of people that paid big bucks probably did because he stated he would not release the ROM so he kind of has to stick to that now. He could have initially, but it's been too long now and he has said he wouldn't too many times so people paid big money because of that. You can say they don't all you want but unreleased rom/out of print games DO sell for more, its a fact.

As long as we the collector keep fighting and overpaying for discontinued homebrew games it will just keep happening and keep getting worse. Limited runs will become normal/etc etc.. I know I'm guilty of it, I actually offered $200 for one of these 3 or 4 years ago but was declined, but all I did was feed the madness.

Stick to what IS available and not what WAS available. Thats how you support a hobby :) I'll still buy stuff I missed if it's reasonable, but paying ten times the value for homebrew games just hurts the hobby in the long run if you ask me.

Lol... Ghost'n Zombie have been made by accident in fact.

I had never think to develop on Colecovision. But looking for a development kit for Atari XL in google , Google shown me a link a Daniel's Devkit. I have been intrigued and just tested.... and my test program became Ghost'n Zombie...

I was even not aware that a "homebrew" scene existed before finding AtariAge also by accident following a link from google while looking for technical information on colecovision .

Here, i discovered collectorvision that was able to create cartridge for colecovision game.... seeing that it just motiviated me to make a complete game.

For me i was just one shot try ... i did not planed Ghost'n Zombie at all , and i could'nt even imagine that it could be sold!!!

All that happens around Ghost'n Zombie are just "side effect"'. :) I find that more Funny than else. So much Buzz around my test program. ..lol...

Funny also, is that Game like "The way exploding foot" that have been produced in more limited quantities ,

that is technical infinitly more complex than Ghost'n Zombie , in fact TWOEF it is technically the most advanced game i made.

Seems to not interest so much people.

I don't understand because from a Collector point of view, i would say it is more rare ... so it could be more interesting.

The Colecovision's strength is in it's future.

I like Gn'Z, but Battle of Hoth blows it away. Because the programmer now has more experience.

Let's look at the nanochess examples too. Zombie Near. Not bad. Princess Quest. Wow, that's a solid game. Mecha8. Now I have to change my pants this game is so good.

It's fun watching the programmers get better.

We can only hope. I feel for those that really want to play this game, I felt the same way. I guess if you want to play it bad enough , you'll find a way.

Finding a way means saving your pennies so that you can buy one when one comes up for sale. The ColecoVision community has had problems with illegally distributed homebrew ROMs in the past. (I know, I know about the slippery ethical slope of non-licensed homebrews being exclusive--don't want to veer into that debate.) Although we may want to play this game (I don't own it either), no one should feel entitled to play it.
