Are controllers normall "stiff" feeling

Recommended Posts

Playing around with the coleco before I get it fixed and I was playing some venture and wondered if the controllers always feel a little stiff to push directionally. I guess stiff is the best word for it. It doesn't flow as smooth as a 5200 controller but feels better than the 7800. Guess I'm used to a pad instead of a joystick type controller but just want to make sure that this is normal.

The game Venture has stiff, unforgiving controls. Diagonals are especially unforgiving -- you have to aim the joystick just right to make "Winky" move. It's the way the game was programmed, and is one of the more frustrating games to play, imo. The CV joystick with it's rigid internal spring doesn't help either. So, it's the game and controllers that feel stiff

I think the problem is less the stiffness and more how short the stick is. The atari 2600 stick is quite stiff as well but you can get a good grip on it. A normal cv controller will make my wrist hurt in a few minutes. I could play for hours with a controller with a Ball knob replacement.

I've seen other controllers such as the super action controller. Can these be used instead of the regular controllers or are they only for certain games?

The Super Action Controllers can be used as complete replacements for the standard CV Hand Controller.

I got two of them with this idea, without confirming it would work in regular games. Welp, they work fine! although I think I'd still have some flat base with which to place on my legs for easy gaming.
