metzger130 #1 Posted February 27, 2014 As soon as my coleco is fixed I am going to start and buy some games for it, I have 3 but of course want more. Was wondering where everyone finds their games. We don't have any stores around here that sell any games for this system, they ahve about every other though, and wasn't sure if there was a best place to get them and place(s) to avoid. When the weather gets nicer there is a flea market by us that people are at that sell games but that's not for a while yet and not sure what they would want for the games and how much they are reallly worth. speaking of that, what is the usual price for a coleco game? i know rare ones are going to be more than commons but what should I be looking for? Thanks, Rob
Pixelboy #2 Posted February 27, 2014 First question you need to answer is whether you prefer to have complete-in-box games or just cartridges only. The replies you will get to your above enquiry will depend on the answer to that question.
metzger130 #3 Posted February 27, 2014 I don't need in box complete games, cartridges are just fine. i just want to play the games, I really don't care if I have a box.

ValkerieSilk #5 Posted February 27, 2014 Then they'll start throwing acronyms at you like nib and cib. Soon after you'll find yourself begging for the next homebrew release from the one whose name shall not be spoken. Best you flee while you still have some dignity! NIAD #6 Posted February 27, 2014 Save yourself some time and expense and find Mumbai's sales thread in the AtariAge Marketplace.... huge list of list carts available, great prices, expet shipping and all around top notch seller. You could always buy the AtariMax SD MultiCart and fill it up with roms as well.
SiLic0ne t0aD #7 Posted February 27, 2014 I'll second that. Depending on how serious you are, carts are the best (especially CIB) but I also highly recommend the Atarimax Ultimate SD Cart. A little pricey but totally worth it, I just got mine finally and it is the tits man! I also highly recommend any of the homebrew games, help support the CV scene and keep it alive by purchasing those.. Totally new games for the ColecoVision in this day in age is fantastic! I buy a lot off eBay but not CV carts too often anymore, everything has shot up in price since I started into this back when I was a youngin' a lots changed. Get your games here on AA or Atari2600.com, lots of others.. Search is your friend.
metzger130 #8 Posted February 27, 2014 I will EVENTUALLY get the Atarimax Ultimae SD Cart, but after buying everything I just did I want to get some games and play and enjoy before I go spending another $100+ on a single cart. I know how great they are as I have and SD cartridge for my genesis and absolutely LOVE IT. I have so many systems I can get those for it's little by little (2600, 5200, 7800,coleco, INTV, NES, SNES, N64) I have a list started of games I want to get that I looked online and saw a place that reviewed them all and gave them grades. Read what they liked and didn't like and started to make a list off that as I never owned a coleco but also wanted to. I have 3 games to play right now but you can never have anough games to play! I'll look on the marketplace and see what is there and start a purchase I'm sure!
retroillucid #9 Posted February 27, 2014 Atari2600.com have a great selection of CV cartridges
fiddlepaddle #10 Posted February 28, 2014 Sometimes you'll find a Colecovision cart or two among stacks of 2600 games, since they look similar to anyone who doesn't know any better. Also, you'd probably have pretty good luck if you are able to attend a game show in your area (or can make the trip to one). I also recommend the Atarimax multicart. Gamester81 #11 Posted March 1, 2014 It's hard for me to find ColecoVision games out in the wild to be honest. Most retro gaming stores barely carry them, and ebay can get expensive. I agree that www.atari2600.com is a great site, and you may even explore craigslist too.
metzger130 #12 Posted March 1, 2014 I have colecovision on my craigslist notifier on my phone, but rarely does anything come up. I am now kicking myself as a month ago someone had the steering wheel attachment working for $10. Even though I didn't have a system at the time I should have picked it up. Joe C. does a tremendous job providing retro-goodness, but again I will say that your best option is through sellers right here on AtariAge.... especially Mumbai. I doubt if any, or should I say most, retro gaming stores can compete with Mumbai's prices and the great condition of the carts that he sells.
ls650 #14 Posted March 1, 2014 eBay. Sad but true.... Search for "Colecovision lot" and you'll find some decently priced bundles.

MOst CV carts are worth almost nothing retail and several of the best easily pay for the ultimate SD...plus you get the Mario Bros. homebrew rom free, a fantastic port I was a part of several years back.
metzger130 #18 Posted March 2, 2014 Well buying games all depends if you can get at least 1 of those 2 coleco's I sent you to work again yurke. No pressure though. lol BTW: post office routes things really odd. I am in Canton Ohio area, and I am 3 hrs from you. The systems should get there Monday becasue they are curently in Pennsylvania. I don't understand the logic on going East to go West 3 hrs.......
NIAD #19 Posted March 2, 2014 Try not to comprehend the USPS' logic. I live in a Chicago suburb and something I sent to Lousiana first went to Iowa, then back to southern Illinios and then finally to Lousiana. It took almost two weeks when it should have been no more than say five business days.

SiLic0ne t0aD #21 Posted March 2, 2014 I feel you on the USPS woes.. I know all about it. It's also extremely helpful my mother was a postmaster, she explains a lot. Things have changed quite a bit since she retired and thank God she did. It's getting bad now.. Bottom line comes to downsizing and saving money/making more of, for USPS 's benefit. There's been paycuts, buy outs, etc.. I could go on. It's hard to make sense of the routing.. A lots centralized now to save on their shipping costs, fuel, money in their "big picture." In the end it's all about The almighty dollar. It's a shame a bunch of smaller offices are gone too and so are the jobs there. It's all about cutting corners and raising rates nowadays, it'll only get worse.. Everything is going up in price. BTW that's cool you're in Canton, that's not too far away at all. A lot of ColecoVision guys in Ohio, awesome! : D Back on topic.. I'd snag up your favorite games on cart but I still definitely recommend (again) the Ultimate Sd cart. Yurkie brought up a good point, but also with Mario Bros comes Mr. Chin, both bonus games included on the cart with purchase. These games are usually $50 each, so right there you just saved $100 off the rip! Fantastic homebrews they are.. Mr Chin is a blast to play, very addicting! At the end of the day, it's your call.. but there's a wealth of knowledge on this website, a ton of info on everything. Just keep looking around, I'm sure you'll find a screaming deal somewhere. Collecting for ColecoVision can be frustrating and expensive but there's nothing like it. This year's going to sweet on the homebrew scene, so stick around.. lots of good games due in 2014. It's going to be a good year! : D
metzger130 #22 Posted March 2, 2014 I'm hoping to find a few games at flea markets cheap and of course finding a few games that are "must haves" at a decent price. I like the feel of real carts but with a system like the coleco taht is hard to find games for it probably is cheaper in the long run to buy the atarimax. I'm not sure if I got ripped or not but I did find pepper II at a local shop and they charged $3 for it. Looks like a decent price compared to ebay, but ebay is high on a lot of things. Are there any "must have's" that anyone would suggest to get cartridge before I would get the atarimax? Also, if I get the steering wheel and roller controller, which I plan on finding somehwere cheap sometime, will it work with them? Not sure how the add-ons are made for the system. Hardware side, the local used game store has the super action controllers for $12 a piece, is that a lot for them?

You make them sound like all the other companies that are doing this just to increase their billions in profit for the stock market. USPS is a company that loses millions of dollars a year because a govt controls what they can do even though that same govt never gives them money. I am surprise the system works at all.

Hardware side, the local used game store has the super action controllers for $12 a piece, is that a lot for them? Buying an atarimax is the cheaper option (unless you want just a handful of games) You could even post in the wanted section here and someone might sell you an atarimax flash (old version) at a better price. ( thats what i did) The real question you have to ask yourself is are you buying the games to play or collect. I play the games mostly on the atarimax but own most of the carts loose to collect. The roller controller and steering wheel should work with atarimax cart. My local game stores sells the super action controllers for 20 a pair. They are more then that on ebay. (at least when you factor in shipping)
Manoau2002 #25 Posted March 2, 2014 The other advantage of the atarimax cart is you can play homebrew roms that have long since been unavailable to buy from their publishers.
