TaskenLander #1 Posted March 1, 2014 (edited) Anyone heard of these. Minus having to buy multiple adapters, they seem cool. I'd like to get a good universal joystick to play some of my systems with. Anyone own/have had experience with one? www.xgaming.com/store/category/arcade-joysticks-and-game-controllers/ Thanks in advance, Mike Edited March 1, 2014 by TaskenLander
SoundGammon #2 Posted March 1, 2014 I have 2 of them, one with just the joysticks and one with the trak-ball built in. Also, a stand-alone trak-ball unit. Both work as a mouse. Great units! I'm going to modify the one with just the joysticks to hook to the PS3 to play all the pinball games on it! They both have buttons on the side that will work great for flipper buttons! Also getting a real pinball "plunger" and mount it in the cabinet to shoot the ball!
Cynicaster #3 Posted March 1, 2014 My brother has been using one for 4 years or so, and he loves it. They're well-built. Lots of arcade aficionados will tell you the joysticks are low quality, but you won't even notice unless you're used to something better. Besides, it's easy to swap in other sticks. Happ Competitions make for a great low-cost upgrade ($10 each or thereabouts). I bought a pair for my brother to install and he loves them.
akator #4 Posted March 1, 2014 I've had various models since 2004, ending with a Tankstick. Everyone who uses it loves it, even non gamers want to play
Hyperboy #5 Posted March 1, 2014 I have 3 of them and they rock! 1 with trackball and 2 without. Easy to upgrade and use on different systems via adapters and works nicely for Virtual Pin.
+boxpressed #6 Posted March 1, 2014 X-Gaming had a great sale last year around this time, and I picked up a dual stick model for $70 shipped. Never had the time to set up MAME properly, so it's still in the unopened shipping box. Maybe this year...
damcanadian #7 Posted March 1, 2014 I used a duel for a mame arcade I built a few years back, it worked out great. never did the final cosmetic touch ups to it though
Austin #8 Posted March 1, 2014 If ball sticks and Japanese buttons are your thing, you won't like it much. But if you grew up in an arcade era that relied on teardrop sticks and HAPP buttons, then you will love the stick. Something to note, I couldn't get it working with my Vista computer (the one I use in the main room strictly for emulation). Works fine on Windows 7 though. Hatta #9 Posted March 3, 2014 A lot of arcade purists don't like X-arcade gear. The sticks and buttons are clones, not actual HAPP parts. The older encoders had some lag issues, especially with adaptors. The newer encoders with USB don't support N-key roll over. For the casual, or even semi-serious arcade game enthusiast X-arcade sticks are a good easy option. For someone who is actually serious about split second timing in fighting games or shmups, you want to buy or build your own with HAPP/Sanwa parts and an iPAC. I have a dual tankstick I picked up used for cheap. It had the old controller but the previous owner did the USB upgrade. The PS2 port doesn't work on my HTPC, but does on other computers. Go figure. USB is OK, but then we're dealing with a 6 keypress limitation, and potential USB polling rate issues. If the controller didn't have these issues, I'd swap out the hardware for real parts and be in heaven. Or if the parts were authentic, I'd go ahead and swap out the controller for an i-PAC. But really to make me happy I need to do both, in which case the only thing left is the wood panel. I might as well start from scratch.
goldenegg #10 Posted March 3, 2014 I've been hoping for another sale like they had last year. If it happens, I plan to buy the Tankstick w/ Trackball. Not sure where I'll store it though, as it's pretty large
retroillucid #11 Posted March 3, 2014 Until I started buying real Arcade cabs, Xarcade rules at home! I build my MAME cabinet about 10 years ago Now, I need space (for more cabs) so I'm thinking to sell it locally Xarcade is great product, and if you don't like the clone buttons/joysticks, then you can always swap them for happs parts
UberArcade #12 Posted March 4, 2014 I have one. Personally I think the joysticks and buttons are a little on the cheap side. Happ Ultimate sticks and buttons are better. I also had some problems doing street fighter II moves with the stock sticks.
RJ #13 Posted March 8, 2014 I got the Dualstick (no trakball) & satisfied w/ it. It's been running fine for about 3 yrs running now. Im not a purist or gaming hipster or anything so Im not particular about buttons/sticks, just gimme a way to play. It fits perectly (with a 4x4 board for bracing/support) on my Kangaroo cabinet that I repurposed as a PS2 arcade setup, I play the Taito, Capcom, NAMCO, etc compilations on it. Yep, with a simple 2 button combo, you can use it for games like Robotron, Smash TV, Black Widow. Delivery was superfast too, arrived 3 days after I ordered online. Lifetime guarantee too, though I've never had to make use of it. I really cant knock it at all.
