Monkey Academy: WTF Is Wrong With This Game?

Recommended Posts

I just received Monkey Academy in the mail yesterday and I bought it not only for my collection but to also help my daughter sharpen her math skills.

So WTF is wrong with this game? The jump function is messed up. Sometimes when I jump my guy only jumps an inch off the ground and other times he jumps up to the next platform. There doesn't seem to be any logic behind when he jumps short or when he jumps long.

Is this a bug? Or am I missing something?

If this is the way the game is intended I'm disappointed. My daughter doesn't want to play it because she keeps dying when she should be jumping over the bad guys.

Nothings wrong with it as far as I recall as I actually enjoyed this educational game quite a bit back in the day as it borrowed heavily from one of my favorite games, Mario Bros. Fortunately Mario Bros. was finally released for the CV as I'm getting older and my brain doesn't work so well anymore for all the math equations that need to be figured out.

BTW if you have an At arimax cart, download the proto of this game that just has the Ko nami title screen. I like this version better.

The jumping is indeed a little quirky in this game. I've found that jumping high or low depends on whether there is a piece of ceiling right above the monkey's head. So in other words, you have to stand in just the right spot (under the openings between the platforms above) to make a high jump. It takes a little bit of practice to know exactly where to stand.

That's unfortunate that they made it quirky like that. My daughter keeps dying in this game because of the jumps and doesn't want to play. I want her to play as a means to practice her math.
