Price of Superman picture label, prices and rarity

Recommended Posts

Well seeing how it was mislisted. That would be the first reason why it sold for nothing.

It did show up when you searched for "atari" or "atari 2600".

Listed as Commando Raid (Atari 2600, 1982) in category: Video Games & Consoles > Video Games

If you were the only bidder and got it for $100 you should be happy.

I wouldn't complain about it. :)

I wonder why it sold for $100 compared to $500 usually paid for a Superman label variation.

Given the rarity it should have sold for $1,000 compared to Superman.

Clearly you don't understand the fundamentals of how markets work. Rarity alone is not the only determinant of value and not everyone that would care about a Superman label variant would care about a Commando label variant and vice versa. As long as you are happy with your purchase and feel like you got a good deal, why does it matter in any way what other people think about it?

Every market is driven by supply and demand. In this case the supply is very low, it's unknown if there will ever be the chance to get one ever again. So given there was only one bid the price-sales function for a Commando proto says there is a very low demand at $100.

Your previous post implies you know the answer, so why was the demand so low compared to a game like Superman?

This thread is a god send!!

With the exception of 181, can the three of you just keep your market squabbles contained herein, as opposed to all the other threads like 'interesting auctions' that you have saturated with your infatuations of school_girl and johnsgirl, and other people's bidding habits.

Please, I'm sure I speak for many when I say it would be a relief not to have to wade through pages of these posts to find something interesting to read.

You're correct that markets are driven by supply and demand. Unfortunately, a single auction is never a good reflection of supply and demand on any given item. Personally, I don't collect variants and I know a lot of other collectors don't either, so that probably impacts demand on both the Commando and the Superman. Also, Superman attracts collectors outside of gaming collectors and is more inconic than some third party game label variant rarity aside. Ultimately, there is no way to ever know why in that particular day on Ebay for that particular auction the item was only valued at $100 and then only by a single collector, i.e. yourself. Maybe you actually overpaid, it's hard to say at this point. I honestly don't understand why you feel the need to debate this unless you are concerned that you did overpay in which case there's not much anyone here can do to help you.

You must have a very sad and depressing life if you spend all of your time wading through pages of posts to find something interesting to read. Considering that these debates only ever happen in a handful of threads specifically designed for this kind of discussion, it seems really odd that you couldn't just avoid those threads or better yet, ignore users whose posts you don't care to read.

Well, in that case I'd be ignoring both you and Andre, as you two always get into a pissing match. :ponder:

Personally I think in this case, with the label not fully covering the black label, it looks cheap and very tacky. Sears Superman is Sexy! Even the box for Superman is exciting regardless of what cart accompanies it. And it's a first party title vs some cheap 3rd party filler title. US games/Vidtec are some of the crappiest games/boxes/labels out there. Maybe next to Zellers on my list of games never to collect again.

Fortunately (as much as I love AA) I don't spend my all of my time here, so life's pretty rosey. Lol

I take it you are referring to the 'interesting auction' thread and 'funny crazy stupid lame auctions' thread. Both threads I frequently go to looking for an interesting auction (strange I know) or a laugh in the latter thread. To say the interesting auctions thread is designed for such discussions is outright incorrect and it has been hinted at countless times by users and mods alike, and to say the same to the other thread is also wrong - after all I started that thread, I think I would know what I had in mind when I did so. Up until page 13 it was a great laugh, with all involved commenting on each other's links. Then a couple of 'market experts' tuned in, and it was egos and arguments clashing from then on.

Anyhow, you can do what you like right, but why don't you just start a new thread 'ebay flippers and expert tippers' where those interested can bash the likes of capitalist pigs and discuss (argue) how well you know the market and how much was payed for X game in Y year by Z ebayer, and how atari collecting has gone to the dogs and their infiltration into the Atari age community is sparking an early Armageddon.
