Williams Moon Patrol Help Needed.

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have had moon patrol for about 12 years with no problems. Now, my moon patrol keeps blowing the F3 fuse. I rebuilt the power supply board and am getting the proper voltages. Plays for several minutes, then blows the fuse again. Has anyone else had this happen and is there a component on the main boards that could be suspect or something else? I have found several posts on the internet regarding the F4 fuse, but not the F3. I would like to fix myself, so I am looking for a possible starting point. Thank you for your replies.

Update: I just noticed I typed the F3 fuse. It is the F5 7Amp. I disconnected the connection for the coin door and the connector for the PCB left on for an hour and the fused did not blow. I re-connected the connection for the PCBs and it worked about 45 minutes, then blew F5 fuse. I still think it's it power supply issue like a capacitor failing under load (yes there are old, possible original caps on the power supply. I am going to replace these next, but I am still looking for suggestions.

Hello,

Hi ckirkman, I saw you avatar and remember the Atari 5200 didplay unit that I bought for $35.00... I was stupic and cut it up, TWICE.

The first time I hacked up the case I did this to it...

The second time I hacked it up I did this...

I'm guessing you already have this... but just in case:

I don't know the solution to this. I can say that I'm having a similar problem with a TRON arcade machine. In my case though, it appears to be a ballast in the light assembly that's blowing the fuse out.

Yes, I thought I read this some where. I will try disconnecting the marque light and see if this works. I will let you know. Thank you.

Both the kiosk and the cabinet next to the kiosk are original. I have seen another kiosk that was cut down. These are giant! Check out my original post on these. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/198123-together-again/?hl=%2Btogether+%2Bagain&do=findComment&comment=2527490

Yes, they are giant, which is why I cut it down. It was just too dang heavy to move from place to place. I'm not sure if I have any photos left of it, but maybe I'll check before work tomorrow. If I do, I'll scan them in.

One thing about that fluorescent light trio, (behind the Atari printing) they lasted forever! I mounted them under a shelf above the washer and dryer, they simply refused tor die. Obviously they were not 'consumer grade'. Oh and that power supply was simply awesome!

As promised, here I am in my youth, committing the major crime of desecration to a sacred Atari Kiosk.

Forgive us, the sins of youth, for we knew not what we did.

Update: I disconnected the coin door and the marquee light. Played for over an hour, no problem. Just replaced the ballast (ACE Hardware had two), starter and light. Appears to be working, now I just need time to play for an hour or so. I will follow up with results.

Darn, but cool pictures. Thank you for sharing. Do you still have it? Unfortunately it is still happening today. I have seen some Wii and N64 Kiosks modified.

No, I'm afraid not. I sold the remaining piece (the monitor hutch pictured above) about 24 years ago before my youngest was born as I had to make room for the nursery, formerly known as 'The Den'.

The problem is, these things take up a lot of room and it takes decades, for them to attain any nostalgic or monetary value.
