fdurso224 #901 Posted March 12, 2015 Hi guys, Tonight, I'm watching an interesting documentary from the good people at Famicom Dojo! They will be discussing about the Neo-Geo Affair. More from their description, "Vinnk reveals his decade-long tryst with SNK's Neo Geo Advanced Entertainment System, the one console in the 16-bit generation that made good on its promise of arcade-quality graphics on a home console, and the hefty price tag to back it up." Wonderfully done! Anthony...

fdurso224 #907 Posted March 14, 2015 (edited) Hi guys, Tonight, I'm playing "Zed Blade" (Operation Ragnarok) for the MVS. Released in 1994 by SNK, it was developed by a company called NMK. Its a fun shooter that's great to have in your collection. The controls are solid, the music is fantastic, and the replay value is high! This title was composed my Manabu Namiki. A famous video game composer that is known for doing music for shoot'em up titles! The was also the earliest title in the genre to have a soundtrack to it! A Neo-Geo home version was announced and completed, but never released. Anthony... Edited March 14, 2015 by fdurso224

fdurso224 #911 Posted March 15, 2015 (edited) Hi guys, Here's some awesome photos of Neo-Geo Land that lasted around 1994-2004. What is NGL? This's what Wikipedia says about it. Neo Geo Land Sports Amusement (or Neo-Geo Land) was SNK's largest chain of in-door amusement parks. There were three locations scattered around Osaka, the most famous of these was the one in Esaka near SNK-Playmore's current building. This particular spot was made into the company's showroom for their pachinko-slot machines and various merchandise. The parks opened sometime in 1994 and officially closed their doors on January 24, 2004. These parks were created with hopes to make a large and friendly gaming center for all video game companies. fdurso224 #917 Posted March 17, 2015 (edited) Hi guys, Tonight, I'm playing "Captain Tomaday" for the MVS. What's Captain Tomaday you ask? Developed by Visco in 1999 exclusively for the Neo-Geo MVS, its an offbeat, overhead shooter that's fun to play despite its cutesy childhood environment! You play as an oversized tomato with free floating hands with help from his friends. When you hit the attack button, your hands stretch out and attack the enemies. As strange as the title is, its a highly addictive game! The animated graphics are amazing, while the music is catchy to listen to its tunes. Replay value to high and sure to attract attention with your friends! Try Captain Tomaday when you have time. Its really a weird, but entertaining MVS game! Anthony... fdurso224 #921 Posted March 19, 2015 (edited) Hi guys, NGDEVTEAM is happy to announce their news Neo-Geo title, "KRAUT BUSTER" Here is more from what they had to say on their news letter. Dear NEO GEO fans,we are proud to present our new game "Kraut Buster"!Kraut Buster is a 16 bit comical action run'n'gun shooting game for NEO GEO.This game had so far our biggest staff and budget with 2 full time pixel artist, 1 freelancing pixel artists,1 coder/designer, 1 musicianA few years ago we wouldn't have thought we can do such a project, but we used the years to build up a very talented team for our company and we will continue to do so.Kraut Buster is our first game with a 2 player simultaneous mode/CO-OP. Which is a lot of fun in this game. The 2 player mode is fully integrated in our base engine and future games will take advantage of this where appropriate. As there are already too many slugish games on NG, we doubled the frame rate, infused Contra style game play into it and added some NGDEV flavors. It plays quite fresh compared to the known games. Now enjoy the 1st tailer video and TV/CRT like screen shots: http://www.kraut-buster.comThe player in this video plays it very fast, but the game allows you to choose your own pace. May it be fast and furious or slow and methodical. We tried to show the verticalness of the game play too. We added a lot of opportunities to fight the enemies on different height levels and you can take advantage of your surroundings. You can pre-order it now for MVS at http://www.ngdevdirect.comThanks to the strong US Dollars and low EURO US customers save a lot of money this time. It's probably the best time ever to purchase one of our games. We offer this time 3 MVS variants for the first time. The Gamer Edition is new and saves a little bit on both the game and shipping.Like usual we started with MVS pre orders, within the next few month we add AES pre orders too.As you know by now this is not the rumored "top-down soldier" project. Both projects are related though. Kraut Buster is the main franchise, the other will be a smaller spin off sharing characters. In case you didn't read on Twitter or Facebook, we returned to use plastic shells. This time black ABS shells.Sorry for the long text, but we are quite excited about this release ------- More About Kraut Buster ----------Mission:Europe, Krautland 1936You are part of the glorious albeit infamous Kraut Buster corps.Your goal is to defeat the evil dictator Dolph Edelwolf and rescue all chicks!Play as either John "Küken" Mallone or Jack "Handsome" Rowdy.Game Features (exact details are subject to change):- several long stages with varied and changing settings - 5-6 end bosses and several sub bosses- 2 player simultaneous mode- Chain based scoring system to provide a long term challenge- multiple heights/ways platforming for more ways to play the game- 3 "routes" / difficulties- Arcade perfect playtime of approx. 35 minutes per run (normal route)- Bloodpumping arcade soundtrack by Rafael Dyll- 60fps / 60hz (runs 2x as smooth as similar games on the NG)Graphics:- Beautiful handcrafted true 16-bit pixel art- large panoramic backgrounds with a lot of paralax elements- big fully animated bosses- tons of animation, little details and pixel loveHardware Specs (MVS/AES cartridges):Will use approximately 784 Megabits (exact megcount is TBD) Full digitized stereo soundtrack In-system software updates via USB port (MVS) Custom made PCBs / Custom made cartridge shellImproved UNI-BIOS/CMVS support: bootup logo and config menu is supported / insert credit via select buttonBest regards,NGDEVPre-order now at http://www.ngdevdirect.comOfficial game page: http://www.kraut-buster.com (C) by NG:DEV.TEAM http://www.ngdevteam.com Kraut Buster MVS Gamer Edition (cart only)[NGDT-306MGE] 385,00EUR Click to enlarge Pre order / advance order / precommande / la reserva / VorbestellungShips in Winter 2015. CGQuarterly #922 Posted March 19, 2015 Hey Anthony, What are your initial thoughts on this new release? I was really excited when I saw the e-mail from them in my inbox this morning, but after reading the e-mail and checking the game out, I'm not so excited anymore. The game seems like an inferior rip-off of Metal Slug. Gunlord was different for a couple of reasons; I felt that it was an homage and not a rip-off (blatant Turrican-related easter eggs in the game) and it was bringing the spirit of the series to a new platform. But this is like re-doing Metal Slug on Slug's home turf. So I'm not excited for this one at this point. One big time positive though, I see that they have gone back to using plastic cartridge shells instead of those dopey wooden AI shells. Too bad they aren't blue like Gunlord was, but they look great anyway. Hopefully future reprints of their other games will come in that same shell. When I first saw the newsletter this morning, I was ecstatic at the beginning when I heard that this new title coming out. The artwork on the MVS box for the LE version was truly remarkable and I thought that this was a sure thing for me! But when I was watching the YouTube video on their first trailer on Kraut Busters, my high hopes started to drop. The game is a clone to Metal Slug, the music is sub-par (so far), and the graphics don't even stand toe-to-toe with a Metal Slug game. NGDEVTEAM says its a 784 meg title in which I personally don't see it at this point being that powerful! You're right about Gunlord, even though its homage to Turrican, its an outstanding title that holds its own for fans for the Neo to enjoy. I miss those blue shells as well! But their are some high points........ Its a 2-player game, the game is still in the works and after the developers start reading the complaints about it, they might redeem themselves and fix some of their errors the black shells are replacing the wooden versions for it. I still would like to pick Kraut Busters up for the AES. Although I don't think its going to be their best title, I still feel the Neo-Geo library had worse than this. Anthony... CGQuarterly #924 Posted March 19, 2015 Yeah, I'm not going to judge the music, graphics, or physics too harshly at this point because the game is basically pre-alpha. I'm judging the premise. I could only see picking this game up if I had already played all of the Metal Slugs (the good ones, anyway) so much that I was totally sick of them and looking for something new. Even with their shooters, The Neo didn't have a lot of frenetic, bullet-hell style shooters so NG:Dev were kind of filling a gap in the Neo library. Who knows, maybe once the game becomes more refined, I will be kicking myself for not pre-ordering. I feel like with these guys, you have to pre-order the game before you're really sure you want it, and that's a hard sell for me considering the amounts that we are talking about.

So true, NGDev its really the only one filling the gap at this point with bullet-hell shooters and I give them credit for doing so. They also use new PCB's, cases, and carts that you don't have to sacrifice existing ones already! I feel in the future that those who continue going that route will make all the common titles harder to pick up and move them to another bracket while prices will go up! Same feeling I have as well. With new Neo-Geo titles from them, you say to yourself that you have to pre-order a copy because how expensive they become on the secondhand market as time goes on! Amazing what the reputation the Neo has when it comes to that Anthony...
