Thomas Jentzsch
While waiting for my next major project to start, I started writing a little puzzle game, based on the iOS game Threes. You can find the latest ROM in this entry in my blog.

+bcombee
Oh my... I'm having a great idea -- let's take this, the 2048 clone, and maybe a few more games like this, then make a multicart called "Fun with Numbers, For Real This Time Guys".
StanJr
I'll buy ANYTHING with Thomas Jentzsch name on it. CART! CART!
Thomas Jentzsch
You shouldn't. Don't go for a name, just for the game!
enthusi
Or we will soon witness games with: "inspired by TJ" or "after a forum-post by TJ"
StanJr
I have never been disappointed with a TJ game purchase. Quite the opposite. I expected to hate Thrust+ simply because I suck at finesse games. Thomas wowed me again. I love Thrust+!!! I will continue to buy TJ games with confidence.
iesposta
I like this game more than I thought I would! I am past, "What is going on here?" Real easy to get what is happening. The best part, > I can't stop playing it! < Wondering how high the numbers can go...
Thomas Jentzsch
You would have to break the current world record on this game and roll the score twice to get past the currently available numbers. +Nathan Strum
You would have to break the current world record on this game and roll the score twice to get past the currently available numbers. Pfff. No gameplay video of it.
Thomas Jentzsch
Yea, there is only one for 27k. And then this huge step to 62k. At least slightly suspicious. Or maybe a lot of unrepeatable luck.
Thomas Jentzsch
The game is getting close to completion. I will add some sounds, but, as far as I can tell, that's more or less all that's missing. Suggestions welcome. Three.s v0.4.bin
Nognir
I haven't tried the newest version yet, but I saw in an older version of your game that when you move the joystick in a direction, for example up, that all the tiles only move up one tile. In the android version the tiles move up as far as possible. Is it also implemented in your game?
Thomas Jentzsch
No, because Three.s is a different game than 2048 (I suppose you are referring to that one here). My game is based on the original iOS (and now Android too) game Threes, which IMO plays better than 2048. The rules are only slightly different, but those tiny differences make a big impact, especially on difficulty ramp up and strategy required. You can play the free browser version here. Nognir
In my version of Threes (for Android by Puzzla Game Labs) the Tiles slide the maximum amount when I move them in a direction. Maybe the different Apps handle this differently. Have to try your ROM again this evening to check that
Thomas Jentzsch
That is not the official version, but (in 2600 terms ) a cheap ("Thees"!) pirate hack of 2048. They must have only adapted the visuals, merging rules and maybe how to create new tiles. One would have to check. Threes offers a (much needed) preview of the next tile, you can do an incomplete move to check the resulting merges (replaced by the undo option in my version) and, to make things a bit more interesting, you occasionally get higher value bonus tiles. The official Android version is here (with costs). There are other free clones which offer preview and may follow the rules more strictly. Nognir
ah ok. Thanks for clarifying
StanJr
Thomas, this game is crack. I've been playing all day and finally got a score over 500!! This goes on cart, I buy it.
Thomas Jentzsch
Thanks. Yes, this game is not easy. To me (unlike 2048) it feels like having to play with multiple challenges at the same time.
Thomas Jentzsch
Some more polishing on the graphics. Added highlighting the highest numbered tile(s) and a few very preliminary sounds. And the game now supports PAL-50 (left difficulty). Also I am experimenting with a Mondrian theme. (the new tile flash is a bit broken) Three.s v0.5.bin Edited April 16, 2014 by Thomas Jentzsch

StanJr
Thomas, the wife and I are going bonkers for this game. You are an evil madman.
Thomas Jentzsch
So this score is good? IMG_3796.PNG It is at least not bad. The world record for the original is ~27k. This would be 1/3rd (~9K) in my game.
