Side Doors.. how does this look?

Recommended Posts

So, more playing around with the background color enabled multi-sprite kernel. I've been playing around with the idea of making a Deadly Towers kinda game. I'd like to use a sprite for the side doors but I'm not sure if this looks decent. Any thoughts?

You no like DPC+?

Part of it is being a hard ass about using plain-old kernels. *shrugs*

So, the doors.. do they look like yak spooge?

Its not immediately obvious because your eyes are drawn away from the sides to the orange/grey thing in the middle of the screen. What does that represent? Are they steps or something? I think the side doors need to be larger and have a little bit of perspective applied to them because they kinda look too small and a bit odd to me.

Half of the screen gets individual colors per row. I alternated between grey and brown to see where the lines were. Also, the sprites will mess with row colors if aligned at certain y coordinates. Was trying to determine which Y values are bugged and avoid them. A classic case of testing too many things at once.

Yep. I think i'll try harder to get the doors more like the source material.

So the orange/grey thing is the floor? Hmmm.... So.... Why aren't the doors resting on the floor? :P

I think that the floor needs to be lower down in the image because it looks a little too prominent at the moment.

The backdoor looks great, before I saw the source material I had the impression the side doors should slide up and ride the angles (playfield in front maybe) illustrating the isometric view. Looking forward to seeing this game! :)

Skipped the multi color background options since it didn't add anything to the scene. Looks a bit more like the source material.

Better, but still looks a bit odd to me. If the floor to the back wall occupied less space it wouldn't appear as chunky on the floor at the sides. The side doors need some kind of "brick effect" around them. Maybe strategically placed playfield pixels would help. Its much better than the previous one, keep at it!

When you create something it gets warped by your own perception. Having an extra set of eyes take a look always helps!

It probably appears like I've been wandering all over the place:

In truth each of these screenshots is me testing out what I can do - hopefully culminating in two great games! Everyone has their own tastes but with AtariAges help I'm getting better at making enjoyable games.

I'm pretty sure we all boast a permanent check mark on the box: Have You Played Atari Today?
