Serious #1 Posted May 5, 2014 I'm looking to start playing some of my old DOS games from the early 90s.. But I have a problem. Most of my disks were formatted in a special format using a program called 800.COM that allowed formatting 3.5 floppies to hold 800k (instead of the 720k). Attempting to use a search engine to find "800.com" yields only unrelated results. I'm wondering if any of you are familiar with this program and know where I might find it, or if anyone has any suggestions on some sites/resources where I might find this? Thanks.. The Usotsuki #2 Posted May 5, 2014 Dunno, I always used 2M... and even that is probably a horrible search keyword.
UKRetrogamer #3 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) Is this what you're looking for? It's a TSR called 800.COM from Italy, which claims to format 800K disks. http://cd.textfiles.com/pcmedic/utils/floppies/800ii140.zip Edited May 5, 2014 by UKRetrogamer

UKRetrogamer #6 Posted May 6, 2014 (edited) Just curious.. How did you find this?? http://lmgtfy.com/?q=dos+tsr+format+800k+floppy (Ignore the references below the usual Google buttons - I'm demonstrating to you, not berating you) This lead me to a long list of results (including a link to your original post here on AtariAge). One of the entries within page one had the heading "INDEX OF FLOPPY DRIVE UTILITIES ..." which opens up to a text file. I used the Find option to look for a line containing "800k". This highlighted a line with a reference to a ZIP file called "800II140.ZIP". I then searched for the filename "800II140.ZIP" in Google, which provided me the download link I included in my previous post. (After downloading it and verifying it contained the file 800.COM) Google doesn't always give you a direct route, but there are usually enough clues within its results to find anything you need with a little digging around and a handful of modified searches. I once helped a friend establish contact with an old school friend who'd emigrated to Canada from the UK 30 years previously, without using any social media networking sites (FaceBook wasn't around at the time), just using the available search-engines (Altavista, IIRC) and a few well-chosen phrases.
