Skilled solder work needed for an original Xbox repair

Recommended Posts

I am in need of a skilled solderer to repair the ethernet port of an original Xbox. The system in question is an otherwise working debug kit. I have used it as my main development Xbox for quite some time. Last year a surge fried a number of electronics in my home. One of them was the ethernet on this debug kit. The system does not detect that a network cable is plugged in. Typically if a surge takes out the ethernet on these systems the part that needs to be replaced is the ICS ethernet chip. I have a donor board with a good ICS chip. Here is a picture of the chip on the donor board:

The writing on the chip says: "ICS UP150081 0135 1893AF"

If you know anything about these kits you know that their usefulness drop significantly without a working ethernet port. I would like to send the donor board and the debug board to someone that has the necessary skills to remove the good chip from the donor board and replace the bad chip on the debug board. I am willing to pay for this work. We can discuss the price. Please only offer your services if you are confident that you have the necessary skill to perform this task. This is not as simple as installing a mod chip. The chip removal process is delicate and the pins to be soldered are very close together.

I would prefer not to send the whole Xbox as the cost to ship goes up significantly as does the loss to me should it not be returned. If it is absolutely necessary that a complete system be shipped for testing then it can be arranged. If you are familiar with Xbox modding and have a retail system you can utilize then you actually don't need the rest of the debug kit to test the board. You can drop this board into any retail Xbox and use ANY IDE hard disk. The debug board does not lock the hdd nor does it require that the hdd be lockable. Using the debug setup DVD it only takes a matter of minutes to get the system up and running and it is completely done using the Xbox itself. I would even be willing to send an HDD that has already been prepared if you don't mind swapping the board and HDD into a retail system. Of course if you think you can use a meter and determine if the repair is successful then that is fine as well.

I would prefer someone that is a known and trusted member of this forum. This board is not easily replaced and I use the system to develop open-source libraries for Xbox (such as SDL, pthreads, agar, etc.) and to work on the Xbox port of Odamex. I really need to get it working again. Thanks for reading!
