DaytonaUSA #1 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) When I was a younger, there were a lot of arcade games that really made an impression on me. While I started playing games with the NES, I didn't start hitting up the arcades till the early-mid 90s. Games like Daytona USA, Sega Rally, etc. (usually Sega titles...) were some of the most visually impressive and enjoyable games I've ever played. One title in particular really stood out. A game that was never ported to any system, and one that I've always wanted to own. I still remember the first time I played the game at Ghattiland (sp?) in Kentucky. The Lost World was around the corner, and as an N64 owner, it's graphics blew me away, none the less the incredible sound. That game was Jurassic Park: The Lost World. Well, after all these years (17!), I finally found one, had the funds for it, AND had a place in the house for it (and heck, my wife likes it, to boot!). It was owned by a private collector since the later part of the 90s, so it honestly is in astounding shape. It came from a couple states away, and was shipped by CRST (NA van lines' old arcade division was bought by them. I think it's called Precision shipping, or something like that. They do arcade and pinball machines and not much else). There's not a scratch, none the less a finger print on the glass, the vinyl looks nearly perfect, the picture is uber colorful and clear with no burn in on the screen, and it runs like a champ. I got the original coin tray, locks, keys, even the manual. I do have the TRex marque, but seeming as every arcade I ever played the game in never had it in place, for me it looks better without it. Anywho, I'll be posting some videos and pictures soon, outside of the couple below of my wife playing the game. It's my first arcade cabinet, and maaaaybe not my last. Although, I'd be happy with just this. If I ever got another, the only other game that's yet to be ported that I NEED would be Star Wars Arcade Trilogy. Anywho, I hope you all enjoy. I'll be showing its innards in the video, showing off it's gigantic CPUs and test button configuration. If theres anything you guys want to see, I'll be sure to film it or take a picture. I found the number on it. It's in the upper 36k, made 1/21/98. I'm assuming that means it's one of the last ones made. But I'm not too sure how many were made. I just can't believe they made THIS many. Maybe I'm just used to pinball numbers which often numbered in the single thousands. Till later, enjoy the pics: Edited May 10, 2014 by DaytonaUSA

Albert #5 Posted May 10, 2014 Congratulations on your find! I know how difficult it can be to find arcade games in such good condition, especially games like this which often end up in arcades for years, or worse, on routes where they get quite a bit of abuse from being moved around often. That's a fun game, I'm sure you and your wife will enjoy it for some time to come. ..Al
DaytonaUSA #6 Posted May 10, 2014 Dude…that machine is in wonderful shape! Nice score!!! Thanks man, I really appreciate it . Keep checking around here, I'll have video soon. It is very hard to find the machines I like in good condition. I guess I like the ones others like, haha. Both the Lost World and SW Trilogy Arcade are going up in price, I've noticed, for ones that aren't completely beat to hell or broken. I remember even in the arcade, in the last years of their existence, SW Trilogy Arcade's joystick would always be completely off, or not even register a certain direction. My co-workers and I went to D&B for our quarterly outing our dept does. It was a lot of fun with the guys out there, but their Lost World machine was in total disrepair. The guy I played two player with asked me if this was "it" (alluding to its poor quality). I tried to describe what it would be like if it weren't beat up, if the guns weren't 5 inches off calibration (I swear, they were that bad), and if the screen wasn't washed out to the point of being half white, without burn in EVERYwhere. Was pretty hard to convey. Now the guys all want to come to my house to play the real thing, haha. I honestly can't wait to show it to them. Btw, if anyone knows how many of these units were made, please let me know. I can't find any information on sales. I'm really curious if my machine is the end of the run or not. I figure with it being such a high number, and it being made in 98 it must be getting there. Thanks!
retroillucid #7 Posted May 10, 2014 Nice machine you got! I also wish to find one someday Congrats and happy gaming!
+Curious Sofa #8 Posted May 10, 2014 Even though the Wii version is wonderful and ought to have completely nixed my need for it (to an extent)... I want a pristine Gunblade NY someday. With a fully functioning rumbling machine gun. Chances are it is never to be had. Partly because of so many being converted to LA Machine Guns (which is not half bad either, so I guess I could look for that). And partly because I'm not a good machine fix-it man. I worked in arcades and did rudimentary fixes, but nothing like upkeeping a light gun connected to a motor like that. I've a suspicion with the condition of your JP machine, you won't need to be doing much if any upkeep, DaytonaUSA. :-)
DaytonaUSA #9 Posted May 11, 2014 Really quick. Is it OK to power off the unit by turning off the power strip. I thought I heard its OK. I can't reach the power switch. Its way in the back on the right against the wall. Seems to power up and down fine, but I wanted to make sure. Thanks guys.

Yes As for me, I use remote control to power on/off my arcades Works really well
Troy_Whelan #11 Posted May 11, 2014 Wow, that is really nice and a bonus that your wife likes it especially as you can both play at the same time! Good for you. Regarding the power strip question, I have 3 cabinets and always use the "surge protector" to turn them off. Make sure you have a surge protector and not simply a power strip. The surge protector will protect it during a power outage and a power strip is just more outlets. Big difference.
DaytonaUSA #12 Posted May 12, 2014 Thanks for the advice guys! I'm glad that it's safe to do the power strip thing. And yep, it's a surge protector, so I should be good. I'm definitely not taking any chances on this thing getting destroyed from a power spike. The remote idea is awesome. I'd be really interested in how you set that up. I've never heard of a remote control on a power strip before. I'm going to be borrowing our company's film camera to film the unit. I tried to do that for this weekend, but couldn't. In the meantime, I took more pictures. I also went ahead and replaced the florescent light tube behind the marque. Looks a like nicer now. Anywho, here are the pictures. I took some pics of the inside. The arcade unit is number 32,163, made in January 1998. I love how the test/service strip looks like something out of a Jurassic Park jeep . I replaced the P1 coin lamp. Was pretty easy! Just glad I had two extras: I accidentally shot an "L" instead of a "B"... now the high score is DAL... ugh. DaytonaUSA #14 Posted May 13, 2014 Thanks Benny. My boss wasn't in, but tomorrow I'll ask to borrow that camera. Can't wait to film this thing. The replacement coin bulb has a split wire, so it isn't working. Im going to go pick up a new one tomorrow after work . Fun moment. For whatever reason I decided to try seeing if anything was in the coin return. In the 1P slot, there was a quarter. How it stayed in the coin return tray during the move all the way across the desert and up 3 flights of stairs is anyone's guess. I know it's just a quarter, but it's from the 90's and it's kinda neat that it's survived after years of play on "free play" mode. Made my day.

DaytonaUSA #20 Posted June 1, 2014 Thought of this thread...this is at a local family fun center-type arcade. Nice dude! lovely cabinet, isn't it? I really like the Tron-style rear back window so you can watch others play. Makes me happy to see these still in full force in today's arcades.
