Intellivisionaries episode 9 is up!

Recommended Posts

With all this being said, infringement or not, I am so glad the IntelligentVision games were released as they were.

if they were not they may have never made it to us collectors as they did, pretty, playable and complete in the box! ;-)

Ditto what wolfy62 said!! To be honest I don't feel bad for Keith - he had 3 decades to do something as far as putting these games on cart and never did because he either didn't want to or did not feel that it was economically viable. That being said, I don't feel his comments about homebrews was fair and he came off as a little sour grapes. He also announced incorrectly like 5+ years ago that some games like Illusions and another would be released on cart and then never followed through. He clearly mentioned being in favor of horrible plug and play products because they made lots of money. This is fine, just don't think he should be taking shots at people that aren't even making much money but doing it for the passion of the inty system. While he didn't mention anyone by name, it's clear who he is talking about and I'm hear to say I completely disagree and that is just one opinion and that's it. Not looking to get into it with anyone, but Keith came across a bit disingenuous to me. Again, just my opinion and don't want to start anything, but I am also VERY HAPPY with everything that Intelligentvision has done!! As well as everyone else for that matter - not sure if I read correctly but he seemed to lump a lot of homebrews together. I understand maybe he doesn't want to get involved for "deep pocket" legal issues, but come on this is a system from 1979 and almost EVERYONE has better things to do with their time then harass a homebrewer for a couple hundred games put on cart. Again, just my opinion. Ducks for cover:-)

Joe, you are missing the point of the 'Deep Pockets' comment.

BIG companies like Namco, Nintendo, and The Tetris Company to name three could come after him through association. I don't see how just because the system is from 1979 that it makes a shred of difference.

I am happy to be doing my own thing, and have more than enough on my plate right now with licensed games like Boulder Dash ® and The Lost Caves of Kroz and yes, Defender of the Crown, to be worried about manufacturing Intellivision Productions games. It would have been nice, but it is obvious why it didn't happen. I posted a picture of the shell to prove that I am not making stuff up. I have no desire to start up anything with anyone either.

What is happening with Keith's IP is for him to deal with. However, you are wrong to assume that Intellivision Productions was just 'all talk and no action'. It was in the works. I know, I was part of it.

I hear you William and I understand the "deep pockets" worry. But I also know that there were rumors that never came to fruition and Keith is doing quite well with his other projects that I didn't think it was necessary to be so harsh. This is just my opinion and obviously I'm not a lawyer or anything like that. And I also do appreciate what you are doing as well as David, Arnauld, Joe, dZ, Catsfolly, Groovy Bee and anyone else I missed. I'm basically on the side of all homebrews as long as they are decent games. Maybe my comments regarding Keith came out too harsh, but my point of view is that he had over 3 decades to act on cart releases and did not want to. I mean none of us are getting any younger lol:-) Again, I support all you guys!! I just found some of the commentary to be a little unfounded given timeline, and the small amount of dollars involved in grand scope. Again, Just my opinion and I hope I didn't upset anyone but I am very happy with what Intelligentvision has done both in past & present as well as all other homebrewers - that was the real point I was trying to make. Thanks for not killing me guys:-) I really meant this positively towards ALL of you.

Thanks.

Joe.

3 Decades? Don't you think that is a bit of exaggeration?

Intellivision Productions didn't really get going until October of 1997.

I count not even 16 years since they started.

And, cartridges only became viable in about 2002.....so I'll give you a decade of foot dragging, but not 3.

Ok my mistake then as to time frame as I thought rights were owned longer - not sure how that worked but still a long time. Either way my opinion remains the same and using Keith's own words regarding Steamroller for CColecvision selling only 75 copies - He clearly made it sound as if catering to collector community was difficult and he tried to do both but it was difficult. Others did that and I think that is a good thing. And again, using Keith's own words, the intellivision is BEST played on original hardware on a regular non high - definition TV. I'm sorry, but he can't have it both ways. And PS Keith: wires on Sears console did indeed have straight wires - not sure how he missed that one. Again, just my opinion but I'll get off my soap box. We usually agree on a lot, & even here agree on some things - we just disagree on some of Keith's points. It's all good:-)

where is CGE?

Vegas. Which is the problem for us New Englanders...you're looking at $300-500 round trip to fly from either Providence or Boston to Vegas, $50 for the show, about $200 for the hotel room, and another $100-150 for food and entertainment.....I'd love to go, but no way I can afford that.

Well, why don't you just come to SRGE instead in Seattle (June 28-29)? You don't have to take a plane, you can drive instead. Directions are easy:

  1. In Boston, get on I-90 westbound
  2. In Seattle, exit I-90

With a drive time of a mere 46 hours, you'll be here in no time.

Cmart said any guy that needs a place to sleep can shack up with him at CGE. What's a few more guys after the 30 or so he has planned. Everyone on the pile!

I like CMarts idea, name tags are in order.

Look for Wolfy 62-Dale, looking forward to meeting you all!

Money juggling is tough, with collecting and real life too! I get that completely.

For all of you that are going to CGE, you won't have any trouble finding me (and Rick and Will) - in the Intellivisionaries booth.

If all goes according to plan, we will be adjacent to the Intellivision Productions booth.

Make sure to stop by and introduce yourselves, and get in on the competitions we're planning.
