xcountryrunner89 #1 Posted June 7, 2014 I just got a Commodore 128 from a garage sale. It included controllers, software, and 2 floppy disk drives. One is for 3.5 inch and the other is for 5.25 inch disks. Is there anyway to program games onto the floppy disks? I have a windows based computer that has a 3.5 inch floppy disk drive if that helps with the process. What is the best way to get Commodore roms from a modern PC onto floppy disks that work on a Commodore 128.
yell0w_lantern #2 Posted June 7, 2014 (edited) You will need special software and hardware. I would think that Zoom Floppy http://store.go4retro.com/zoomfloppy/ would be helpful. That 3.5 inch drive for the Commodore would be a 1581 and I don't know if your Windows machine could even write disks correctly for it. Consider a uIEC http://store.go4retro.com/uiec-sd/ and Jiffy DOS http://store.go4retro.com/jiffydos-kernal-rom-overlay-ic/ You will find many more knowledgeable people than me at the Lemon64 forums, btw. Cap5750 #3 Posted June 7, 2014 I have the zoomfloppy. It worked well for me. I also have the uiec with Jiffy DOS. It worked for the most part as described. But in the end, I ponied up and got one of the Ulimate 1541IIs and never looked back.
TheRealAnubis #4 Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) I've used an sd2iec, as well as the old style of using an x1541 cable and a 1541 drive. All have their challenges- just read up online to see which one fits you best! I backed up all of my c64 disks using a parallel cable, nibtools, and a 1541. I think the zoomfloppy is USB, but works along the same lines. They are pretty reliable overall, but if the copy protection was too crafty there can be problems.
