wiseguyusa #1 Posted June 7, 2014 So thanks to my friends in the other forums, my memory was jogged of the Xante kiosks that we had here in Tulsa in the early 1980's. My estimation is that there had to be at least 6 machines, and that assumes that only 1 K-Mart store had one. It seems to me that if one of these old machines could be found, or maybe just the schematics that it could significantly reduce the cost of producing homebrews. What does AA use to burn carts? Matthew #2 Posted June 7, 2014 (edited) Strong user name to post content ratio. "Eprom burner". Google it!. Edited June 7, 2014 by Matthew
wiseguyusa #3 Posted June 7, 2014 Goggling "EPROM Burner" doesn't bring up anything about specifically making Atari carts. Googling "EPROM Burner Atari 2600" brings me back here to AA.
godzillajoe #4 Posted June 7, 2014 Don't see how one burner over another would make any difference in price.
nanochess #5 Posted June 7, 2014 These are the PCBs used commonly for Atari homebrews: (probably they cost $1 per piece in bulk quantity) http://www.grandideastudio.com/portfolio/pixels-past/ Check the basic 4K size. Commonly is used a capacitor and a big chip, the EPROM or PROM that contains the program. (difference is that an EPROM is erasable with ultraviolet light). Also these memories aren't so pricely. Finally, you use an EPROM programmer like this: http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4312 And that's all. The cartridge shells commonly are reused from Pac-Man cartridges ($0.50 each) So the Xante kiosks would be simply too cumbersome.

Raticon #7 Posted June 8, 2014 Isnt there anyone that makes new cartridge cases for the Atari systems? I do know for a fact that some company is making new cases for the NES.
Wickeycolumbus #8 Posted June 8, 2014 At one point there were some new shells being made, in different colors too. Don't know why they aren't being made anymore.
