Xante - Tulsa 1983

Recommended Posts

So thanks to my friends in the other forums, my memory was jogged of the Xante kiosks that we had here in Tulsa in the early 1980's.

My estimation is that there had to be at least 6 machines, and that assumes that only 1 K-Mart store had one.

It seems to me that if one of these old machines could be found, or maybe just the schematics that it could significantly reduce the cost of producing homebrews.

What does AA use to burn carts?

Goggling "EPROM Burner" doesn't bring up anything about specifically making Atari carts.

Googling "EPROM Burner Atari 2600" brings me back here to AA.

These are the PCBs used commonly for Atari homebrews: (probably they cost $1 per piece in bulk quantity)

Check the basic 4K size. Commonly is used a capacitor and a big chip, the EPROM or PROM that contains the program. (difference is that an EPROM is erasable with ultraviolet light). Also these memories aren't so pricely.

Finally, you use an EPROM programmer like this:

And that's all. The cartridge shells commonly are reused from Pac-Man cartridges ($0.50 each)

So the Xante kiosks would be simply too cumbersome.

Isnt there anyone that makes new cartridge cases for the Atari systems?

I do know for a fact that some company is making new cases for the NES.
