Grig #1 Posted June 9, 2014 A C64 that I have bit the dust and I do not feel like figuring out which chip it is and soldering/etc I am looking for a working C64 computer with a power supply. My old PS may be the problem so I don't want to risk damaging a good C64. I am always in the mood to trade though I don't have much right now. Anyway, PM me if you can help a brother out!
Uzumaki #2 Posted June 10, 2014 Shipping to Rylos won't be cheap. Not everyone has access to the star car. You might want to specify where you live as C64 isn't that rare but it's still not cheap to ship mostly because of the size.
ApolloBoy #3 Posted June 10, 2014 You should probably check your power supply before plugging it into another C64. C64 PSUs are notorious for going bad and they very often take the computer with it.

LOL fantastic response 96114 for shipping - it's not Rylos but it IS Janesville Ca which has been known for years as the home of "Maniac Mike of the Mountain People". He chases people around on his moped and yells obscenities at them. Great fun for my wifoid and 3000 little Griglets. PS - we actually have a lake up here called "Silverlake". I wonder if I should shut up and talk dirty now because the other girls meant nothing to me. It was you ... you ...

True, I have heard about that. I don't have another C64 to test the PS out with so maybe a C64 and a verified working PS would be best ...
krslam #6 Posted June 10, 2014 I don't have another C64 to test the PS out with so maybe a C64 and a verified working PS would be best ...The LAST thing you want to do is use a good C64 to test an unknown power supply. If the PS is bad, it may well destroy your good computer. Better to check the PS under load with a voltmeter. If the 5V line is over 5.25V, toss it.

I don't have a voltmeter. I changed the original request. Thanks to everyone for their input and care/advise!
thegamezmaster #8 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) Sorry to hear. I had the same thing happen to me with 2 C64 power supplies. Don't know if you've checked classic computing on here but Ray Carlson sells a C64 computer saver that limits the voltage sent to the C64. He has 3 different models available. Haven't dealt with him but you may want to check it out if you get a working C64 and PS. Here's the topic: C64 Computer Saver from Ray Carlsen Edited June 10, 2014 by thegamezmaster
+save2600 #9 Posted June 10, 2014 I just bought one of Ray's Saver's. Ray's easy to get a hold of and the communication is great. Worth every penny to protect our aging C64's!
thegamezmaster #10 Posted June 10, 2014 (edited) Does he have a site or how did you get a hold of him? Which one did you get? Sorry don't mean to detract from Grig. Edited June 10, 2014 by thegamezmaster
+save2600 #11 Posted June 10, 2014 Yes, he has a site: http://personalpages.tds.net/~rcarlsen/ ...and I decided to go with the $50 external Saver because I already have a few good original power supplies. If I was a power user, would have gone with his $100 supply.
