Darren #1 Posted June 14, 2014 I always wanted an Atari console but only had a Teleng colourstar (now that was a rare console). I remember playing on a console at my mates circa 1982 that seemed advanced for the time. There was an invaders game that had about 128 variations including swerving bullets and a golf game. There was a soccer game that had offside (unusual for the time). I think the console had numbered keypads.
CatPix #2 Posted June 14, 2014 Numéric keypad on the system or on the pads? Advanced and 1982, sounds like a Colecovision. Maybe a Creativision, but more likely a Colecovision.
Darren #3 Posted June 15, 2014 The keypads were numbered. I am based in the UK BTW.
CatPix #4 Posted June 15, 2014 The Colecovision was released in the UK... was it? Heh, maybe not. I think it was discussed on the chat. Other advanced systems with a keypad : Creativision : Released in France and Germany, but may have made it's way to England somehow : Yeno super Cassette Vision : Stand between a Master System and a NES graphic wise, but was released in 1984. Any clone of the Arcadia 2001 family : Arcadia style : MPT-03 style : (in England, it appears that only the Rowtron MPT-03 was sold. But there may be other brands as well, coming in different colors and even shape) It's not AS advanced as a Coleco, but on par with an Intellivision graphic wise. The sound is crude. But heh, if the only other system you saw in 1982 was Pong games, it may had looked advanced to you for sure. There are other European and US systems I can think of boasting a keypad, but they are far from being "advanced" for 1982.
Manoau2002 #5 Posted June 15, 2014 The OP said it was advanced compared to what he remembered which were a pong console and the atari 2600. Given that it was "82" it could have also been the intellivision. Remember that the Colecovision wasn't launched till august of that year.
Darren #6 Posted June 15, 2014 After some research it appears to be the rare Interton VC 4000.
CatPix #7 Posted June 15, 2014 (edited) heh. That's one I didn't mentionned because it's not so advanced ^^ But yeah, in case you didn't recognized those ones, I was about to mention it. You will have better luck to find one in England as the Radofin 1292 Advanced Video Programmable System, that was sold by at least 5 brands in England. From memory, there was Acetronic, Lansay, Voltmace. Maybe it was an Interton, but it's more likely that is was a 1292. The fist TVGames system I ever got was a Teleng Colourstars as well They didn't really call them consoles back then... It was out a few years before the VCS though! The same console was produced under a variety of names, if I remember correctly. Edited June 16, 2014 by gorf68
