How about offering kit form and let the end user assemble it him/herself with no warranty? Not everyone can do this but there are a few who is experienced with SMD soldering and can either apply paste and bake em or for those with balls of steel, hand solder em.

 

I'd prefer assembled though. My 42-year old hand can't handle really small work and I don't have the equipment for baking in solder paste. Plus for some reason local Goodwill likes to overprice their working toaster oven

I would do if it wasn't for the PIC Micro -- there's no way to pre-program the surface mount chip (I dont think anyway)...
