psiamidis
Wasn't sure where to put this, but I guess the general section works. I recently sold my entire video game collection, but found that I still have a binder full of old video game ads I used to collect when I was a kid, mostly from 1982 to 1988 or so time frame. I was wondering, are there any websites out there that like to archive such ads? I scanned a few and included them below, I can scan more if there are some websites out there that like this sort of thing. Seems like a waste for me to just keep them all in a box if there are others that like to revisit old video game print ads.
mipaol
WishbookWeb.com is a good site that offers scans of Christmas catalogs from 1933-1988.
Keatah
Despite me being into only the TRS-80 Pocket Computer, TI-59, and Apple II series - I love looking at (and reminiscing about) all the old advertisements.
darthkur
How easily one forgets how terribly expensive all these items were back then when, currently in possession of a such a large collection that would have required significant wealth back then. I love how the APF 1000 ad states: "This sophisticated unit can accept an infinite number of game cartridges"
+Random Terrain
How easily one forgets how terribly expensive all these items were back then when . . . I've never seen prices that high in a catalog from the USA or in a store back when those games were new. Almost 60 bucks for some games? Is that a catalog from Canada? Almost 60 bucks for some games? Is that a catalog from Canada? With the one ad for the Coleco Adam in French and the monetary units still being dollars, I think it's safe to assume they're from Canada. Quite possibly Quebec. Also at that time the American dollar hadn't sunk to an all time low as it has now, so the discrepancy in prices are explained in that the U.S dollar being equal to roughly $1.40 or so Canadian. psiamidis
Yeah they are from Canada, Montreal to be exact. Games were pricey at the time, like from these ads which has Genesis games at $80 and Blazing Lasers for $90! I like the 3rd ad here which shows the 2600 still being sold alongside the Sega Genesis, that little 2600 had some serious lasting power. I guess I should just scan all these ads and toss them on a website, at least that way they all get preserved.

That is cool that the 2600 was still chugging along, even in the beginnings of the 16 bit era. Yes, please do upload the rest. These are great to look at. psiamidis
Ok I scanned some more, figured I'll just post them here since that's easier. I have very few Intellivision ads alas, I was much more of an Atari fanboy back in the day and then transitioned to Colecovision. On the back of some of these were ads for old computers so I scanned those as well. There's more but most of the remaining ads tend to be more for the NES era although there are still some Colecovision ads in there as well, I'll post them over time. jhd
Yeah they are from Canada, Montreal to be exact. Where was the TG-16 sold in Montreal? I was living in Halifax during the time, and the only store I recall that stocked it locally was Radio Shack. ETA: I have never before seen a 5200 advertised in a Canadian publication. The Canadian Collectors FAQ is wrong on this point: 2) Atari 5200 Atari 5200 Hardware Supposedly, the Atari 5200 system saw a release at least in Ontario, and through Atari Canada by mail order. +Gemintronic
I like the ads they did for those Panic games. I'm especially impressed with the screenshot and slogan for my Candybar game: "Make candy or something" Genius!
psiamidis
Compucentre used to to sell the TG-16, I worked there back in the day and they even had the CD player add on. That ad with the 5200 is an American ad actually, I never did see a 5200 for sale in Montreal. Most of my ads are Canadian though. Where was the TG-16 sold in Montreal?
