Atari 2600 Drums

Recommended Posts

I'm a musician and I wanted some Atari drums, so I programmed something that fit my needs and I figured I'd post it here. It is the first Atari homebrew I've actually finished.

It's extremely simple and really not anthing special, you press the Joystick in a direction and it plays a drum sound and flashes some colours, but it works well for what I want it for.

The drums don't sound very close to actual drums, but half the fun of Atari is using your imagination, right? I tried to make the drums sound at least somewhat like what they are supposed to, but it's pretty difficult with the sounds available and my lack of knowledge on using them.

Anyway, if anyone wants to check it out, it's here. Up is a crash, down is a tom, left is a closed hat, right is a snare, and fire is a kick. Enjoy.

Great idea! I'm looking forward to trying it out. :) I don't know if it's out of your project 'remit' but have you thought about adding other drum sounds to the second joystick, at all? That could be fun using two joysticks stuck the table. :)

Thanks a bunch!

I hadn't thought of that, actually, but it's an extremely good idea that I'll have to implement soon. :D

I'm also thinking of adding in a programmable sequencer for making drum loops, so hopefully with this and the dual controllers it'll turn into something actually useful.

You're welcome. :)

That would be too cool. I can't wait to see it. :)

You might want to check out this program that has a couple of drum sounds:

Move left to hear a bit of drums from Pitfall II: Lost Caverns and move right to hear part of the drums from Skate Boardin'.
