omegadot #26 Posted August 16, 2014 7th Saga...Playing it again now. I don't see myself beating it.
SoulBlazer #27 Posted August 16, 2014 I'm currently working through Megaman 2, and it's brought back memories of how I never did beat Yellow Devil in the 1st game. I would rank the Yellow Devil (AKA the Rock Monster) as being in the top 5 of all video game bosses in terms of difficulty. Without using the 'pause' trick in the NES version (and that's been disabled in the re-makes) it's VERY difficult. It requires perfect timing with your jumps and shots. This was one of the hardest fights I ever did as a kid BITD and finally got him.
Cobra Commander #28 Posted August 16, 2014 The Getaway. Got to the last crazy mission and gave up.
Zap! #29 Posted September 4, 2014 (edited) A lot of 80's computer games. Even with no social life and no job 20+ years ago, I could not beat Devon Aire or Operation: Clean Streets for the Atari ST. Edited September 4, 2014 by Zap!
7800Lover #30 Posted September 8, 2014 Zelda 2: the Adventure of Link - getting to the Great Palace at the end is a challenge in itself. I never beat Link's shadow, the final boss.
+frankodragon #31 Posted September 8, 2014 I too never finished Final Fantasy VII and later titles. I couldn't finish the english translated Hourai Highschool due to that killer bug in the final boss.
+frankodragon #32 Posted February 16, 2015 Another series I've never got to finish: The Grand Theft Auto series. I would play a few missions then there would be a tough mission where I would just give up.

Zap! #35 Posted February 16, 2015 Pause trick? Mega Man bosses are notorious for the pause trick. Shoot a boss with a certain weapon and keep pausing and unpausing the game as soon as your shot hits. It will keep taking away his energy.
Torr #36 Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) After Burner / After Burner II (Sega Master System / Sega Genesis) This game just gets so hard towards the final levels. Always a blast to play though. Now After Burner III on SegaCD? Pffl, that game's too easy! Unfortunately it's nowhere near as fun! Aztec Adventure (Sega Master System) Love this game and play it often as a go to game for the Master System, but can never clear the last level. Sometimes I use the level select code to try and save time, but then I don't any enough free lives saved up to even make the attempt worth it. Chakan (Sega Genesis) The first world is simple now after so many times playing this, but when you have to go through the four elements a second time it becomes frustratingly, controller breaking-ly, hard!!! Ecco The Dolphin (Sega Genesis) The Tube... The Tube... THE TUBE!!! DAMN THAT TUBE!!! Just as well I can't beat it because I've used passwords to play the next level, Welcome To The Machine, and I can't beat that either... Shinobi (Sega Master System) The final boss is just so hard, not to mention the lest level as a whole which eats up a couple lives leaving me with a short health bar and not many back up lives to really have a decent chance at beating him. X-Men 2: Clone Wars (Sega Genesis) Can never beat the Phalanx Queen, the thing that charges at you and you have to shoot her brain when she cracks her own skull open against a wall. There's more for sure, but these are the games I've played A LOT through out life, and most I still play rather often even though I know it'll always end in a Game Over. The exceptions being Ecco and Chakan... the programmers were just being masochistic, or maybe they just didn't let anyone else playtest them. I remember back in the day making our own Doom WADs, I'd make levels that none of my friends could clear, and they'd accuse me of intentionally making impossible levels. To me they weren't only not impossible they were kinda easy... but I guess that's because I designed them and knew ahead of time just what to do to get through each and every situation I created within the level.
