Picture of prototype zarlor mercenaries?

Recommended Posts

check out the picture for Zarlor in this classic lynx advertisement, it doesn't appear to reflect any level or background objects from the commercial game. Maybe its a prototype of the first, desert level? Is that object in the center the player ship? And what is that energy bar for on the bottom of the screen? At least the money/score counter in the top right is the same as the final, so it does indeed appear to have a connection to the retail release of Zarlor.

The character sprite in Xenophobe looks different as well (at least to me).

Look for Grid Runner, there were early release of Grid Runner screenshot before Lynx was killed, it was renamed Hyperdome and released.

Yeah, this must be a really early brochure. (Where does it come from?). The cartridges shown are still the flat ones. The screenshots seem to show mostly work in progress. Zarlor Mercenary looks weird. Xenophobe even has DEBUG at the top left. Slime World has a door that doesn't look like the one in the finished version. Final Klax has a star-filled background. Paperboy shows hats for lives and newspapers supply to throw underneath the score (which is in black, not white). Ms. Pac-Man seems OK. Roadblasters has some missing stripes where it says SCORE.

Probably they had to use this to have at least some games other than the first 5. Pretty cool find though!
