Prosystemsearch #1 Posted August 8, 2014 I know they lasted longer than Atari Corp., and that they kept on making good arcade games for a while until 2004. What I want to know is the FULL story of Atari Games' downfall. : :

Shaggy the Atarian #5 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) This PDF should help give you an idea. Notice that after Star Wars they just couldn't break 5 digits in sales again. Gauntlet got close but by these production numbers it shows that Gauntlet sold 2/3 times more than most of their other games in the following years. Especially the late 80s where they only could find success with kits. Sure there were a lot of names that remain known as classics but since they couldn't sell at the time. Even the famous and loved Xybots failed to break 2000 units in production units which even then was poor (right now a run of 2000 is good but in 1987 that was pretty bad) After so many sales failures, the company changed hands (from being Namco owned to Time Warner owned to Midway owned until the end) and with Midway closing up shop it meant the end for AG just as well. +wood_jl #6 Posted September 8, 2014 Do a thread search. This has been discussed so many times here and in so much detail, that the people are not likely to start that all up again in a new thread. Or, wait for the book.
rockyyaknow #7 Posted September 15, 2014 Kind of late to this thread but if you type history of Atari on YouTube you'll find some good information it.
