+OLD CS1
Now correct me if I am wrong here. I am no electronics expert. But I believe replacing that resister with a stronger one will dim the LED even more. Yes. A higher resistance will result in a dimmer LED. rickneff68
Thanks to dphirschler for the original write-up! I just performed this on one of my systems with a blue LED. A couple of notes: A 3/16" drill bit works well and is about the right size for most standard LEDs. (As I'm in the U.S. I used imperial measurements, not metric.) You need to clip about 1/4" off the LED for it to bend and seat properly in the case socket. I found it useful to use a Sharpie to mark the leads on the LED to identify which went where. Otherwise, it's a very basic process. Edited May 21, 2017 by rickneff68
NISMOPC
I know this is an OLD @$$ thread, but I just opened my beige TI to install a F18A (which is AMAZING) and to my surprise, there is already a RED LED connected to the power supply and just bent backwards. Has anyone else experienced this? I have owned this unit since it was brand new. Was a birthday gift from parents purchased at Service Merchandise back in the day. Plan to do the mod just because I can, but very surprised to see it already installed.

I've seen original boards and supplys in beige machines and qi supplys with original motherboards in them as well the qi supply doesn't include a led, while the linear supply originally in the 4A does, and they just folded it back like you say
Toucan
If TI put an LED on the beige console, my guess is it would have been purple to go with the new theme. Would love to see that with the purple/beige joysticks. Edited January 19, 2023 by Toucan
