Black and White Jaguar?!

Recommended Posts

OK, this is extremely odd...was modding an NTSC Jag and on testing the video output is black and white only. I'm not sure if this is because I'm running it on a PAL TV or not (though I did add a regionswitch and it does this for both regions). I'm using an RGB SCART cable to connect it to the TV. And like a complete fool I forgot to test it before starting the hacking...

[edit: using RF output gives me some attractive vertical rainbow 'bands' on screen, with *some* colours correct (in particular bands). Still don't know why...]

Did I fry something while messing around on the inside, and if so is it fixable? If I just need to redo some solderjoints that'd be good *hopeful*

[edit: I'm worried about U3...I recall touching it but didn't *feel* myself static-ing it...:( Schematics make it look important...]

sounds like the ink has dried up or been spilt out of the chips.. go to Staples and buy a colour refil kit that should sort you out :)

Have you tested the cable? and the edge connector on the Jag PCB? per haps a dodgy connection or broken wire..

Looks like you converted it in a SECAM jaguar!

Test the SCART connector: once it happened that I used a Y/C-to-scart and got the same thing.

Bye.

Hi Stone !

This isn't odd at all... You not only need to add a 50/60 Hz switch, but you also need to modify your scart cable. My cable has a switch, that needs to be turned on to get color when using a NTSC system. Sadly I can't tell you what exactly this switch is connected to... But maybe looking at the pinouts already helps...

Regards, Lars.

Oh, cool! I thought I'd damaged something important :D

It's not mine; it's going back to an NTSC region tomorrow: I just wanted to make sure I didn't destroy it while it was here :D
