Stephen g #1 Posted August 18, 2014 New CD DRIVE add on with 6 CDs+memory cart for £499 or... Buy a reconditioned unit from Best in the US for $149 no software + 40 delivery , no power supply, no memory cart...so that means I'd have to pay on top £40 import duty, £20 for uk power supply, £50 for memory cart...then on top of that I'd need the games ...and then if anything goes wrong iv goto send it back to the us for repair ? Trying to way this up...😁
Willard #3 Posted August 18, 2014 i have never understood the appeal of new stuff, since I 99% of the time open it up anyway. So in that regard $835 USD seems insane for a Jag CD unit, new and complete or otherwise. Those 6 CD's better include complete copies of iron soldier 2, world tour racing, primal rage, and gorf
+save2600 #4 Posted August 18, 2014 No to paying through the nose for a new one and yes to purchasing from Best. Or waiting to find a good used one from someone closer to you, of which will most certainly be the cheapest option yet.
NeoGeoNinja #5 Posted August 18, 2014 No. (live in the UK btw)
Stephen g #6 Posted August 18, 2014 Ok thanks... You recommend getting one from best ?
Rick Dangerous #7 Posted August 19, 2014 I would say Best. Cheaper, guaranteed, and build your own library with games you like.
Lost Dragon #8 Posted August 19, 2014 Just because it's new, does'nt mean it'll work fine.Optical equipment a bloody nightmare at best of times in my humble exp.Had issues with countless Dreamcast's, 1 Gamecube, 1st generation Playstation, numerous PC CD drives, inc current laptop. Used to be a production engineer myself and we always had pity for anyone buying something made on a Friday afternoon/monday morning...as no-ones mind was on the job :-). That's a lot of money for a new system and buying from USA causes headaches of it's own with shipping costs etc. What are the 6 games and how desperate to buy one are you? I know UK Jag CD Drives are said to be like hens teeth, but which ever option you go for (UK/USA) might be worth trying to find someone who could repair it in UK, IF worst thing happens. Not sure if Total Console Repair would be worth asking? Jag CD just a 'dumb drive' is'nt it, so potential faults would be laser dying/lens replacement/new motor etc i'd assume? Stephen g #9 Posted August 19, 2014 (edited) Hi, this is what telegames offer... New boxed CD Unit - comes with virtual light effects built in - plus 6 cd's - Vid Grid / Blue Lightening / Demo Myst and Tempest soundtrack. PLUS Space Ace and Battlemorph - plus new boxed Memory Track cartridge. Lost Dragon #13 Posted August 19, 2014 :-) Think at the end of the day, you pays yer money/makes yer choice etc. Which ever option you go for, if it were myself, before i took the plunge, i'd look into finding someone that could repair the unit, should the worst happen. I've heard horror stories of drives breaking down, sometimes easy to fix, others not coming back, yet others never had any issues... If your paying serious money, i'd say your looking at the unit as an investment, so it pays to make sure you can protect that investment. Which ever option you go for, hope it turns out well and you get a lot of enjoyment from the Jag CD.
ZylonBane #14 Posted August 19, 2014 If you had a choice, would you buy a brand ..... Yes, I would buy a brand. Kind of hard not to these days.
82-T/A #15 Posted August 19, 2014 Honestly, if I had to buy that stuff now, I simply wouldn't do it. Not trying to be a negative nancy, but the prices are so high right now, that it just seems illogical to spend that kind of money.
Stephen g #16 Posted August 19, 2014 Think I might have to agree... Might wait a bit before I decide what to do 🔫

I'm glad I acquired mine years ago before it was so expensive, but I rarely play the Jag CD. There's not enough good games to warrant plunking down the costs involved now. I don't know what I would do if my JagCD broke, honestly, as far as replacing it is concerned. Actually, the fact that it's getting so expensive is just more motivation to keep it in the box. hrumph. You know, thinking about it now... if it wasn't for Philia, Robinson's Requiem, Impulse-X, and / or the upcoming Protector Resurgence, I totally wouldn't waste my money. I'm much happier with the cartridges...

They are not that un-reliable. Have been logging serious hours on my used unit for over a year now and no problems that couldn't be fixed with a cleaning. 3. They are not that difficult/expensive to fix should your laser die. Any local electronics shop would be able to fix a Jag CD. Get it out of the box and play that sucker!!
