Antiriad #1 Posted August 24, 2014 Hi I'm building a bartop with arcade classics of the golden era, like Donkey Kong, and I'd really like to reach a good fidelity to the originals both for hardware (4-way joystick, vertical monitor, low lag...) and software. About software, it seems that the 60-in-1 multiboards have a bad emulation of Donkey Kong, while I've read good reviews of the ArcadeSD pcb. But I have alreasy a Raspberry Pi, that can run Donkey Kong and other classics both on MAME4All (based on the old MAME 0.36b7) and on Advance MAME 0.106. So I'm wondering how much is emulation of Donkey Kong (and other classics like Pac-man and Galaxian) accurate on this MAME version? Using the Raspberry Pi with Advance MAME 0.106 could I reach an accuracy of emulation at least close to ArcadeSD (saving a bit of money)? So I'm really interested in a your judgement on the quality of emulation, thank you...
Osgeld #2 Posted August 25, 2014 (edited) Mame historically has been about emulating the real metal as accurately as they can, for better and worse while being nitpicked by untold thousands of users for almost 2 decades who knows what these SBC systems (which are nothing more than an emulator running on unmaked one hung low FPGA's) are using and how they stack up Edited August 25, 2014 by Osgeld
Arbee #3 Posted September 2, 2014 (edited) Donkey Kong accuracy really started taking off in the mid hundred-teens. If you want dead-accurate DK in a cabinet, get one of the many small-but-powerful HTPCs like a Gigabyte BRIX or Intel NUC with a Core i7 and run real current MAME with something like GameEx or HyperSpin as the frontend. It's tough to beat the real thing Edited September 2, 2014 by Arbee
