Keatah
What is a good EEPROM programmer? I'm retiring my MH RomWriter and Apparat programmers to classic status after a million years of usage. What is a good modern day EEPROM programmer that can handle today's stuff + yesteryear's stuff?
SkydivinGirl
I use the GQ-4x from MCUMall. It can use Willem adapters or their own. The software is pretty decent as well. I haven't had any problems using the device with the power that USB provides, but you may need a power adapter for it if you do. I don't believe it can program PALs or GALs. http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/comersus_dynamicIndex.asp Good luck. Heather
Keatah
No, it doesn't seem to support PAL/GAL. That is something I'm going to need. I was looking at the the TL866A which has some support for Lattice GAL devices. I believe GAL can be used to emulate PAL. And I also think that some programmers convert PAL Jedec into GAL. Not really sure on that. DSAFRAZ0012486.pdf
omf
perhaps a programmer from xeltek would suit you well, they are however quite expensive
Keatah
We have 3 of xeltecs in the lab. I'm looking for something for hobbyist/repair/archiving at home.
Lynxpro
Is there a good one that doesn't cost an arm and a leg that works with OS X Macs [either PowerPC or Intel-based] and can read ROMs and write EPROMs [or EEPROMs] for A8, 5200, 7800, Genesis, and Jaguar? Thanks.
Keatah
I'm going to pick up a GQ-4x and TL866A for the moment. They will suffice till I actually need to do a PAL.
+nanochess
I got a GQ4X and it's pretty reasonable.

Uzumaki
Used to have a Willhem programmer some years ago then it went bad. I still like to be able to read or progra, 2k and 4k eproms so naturally it'd require external power, typically around 12.5v just for vpp I haven't been able to find out if modern USB based programmer can handle old EPROM gracefully or if it'd throw a fit and balk at anything needing more than 5v. PS glad I don't need to do 1k, a typical 2708 needs weird voltage. It's usually easier to double up ROM image and burn it to 2716 and tie uppermost address pin to Vcc or gnd permanently. szubaark
I have GQ4x also. Actually this is my 2nd one, as the first one Fried after burning several 2764s eproms. But MCmall was good about sending me a new one. I just hope after few months this one doesnt fry also as these arent cheap ($99)
