Destiny, anyone?

Thanks for the report. That all looks promising. Since I haven't played in a year I'd have to relearn the whole thing anyway. Most of the change logs for the 2.0 patch just confuse me because I don't know what they changed from. I think it's going to be a challenge starting over, but since I rather enjoyed the original game up to level 20 I'm kind of looking forward to it.

No prob, I'm actually sort of envious that you haven't played it for a while, will make it much more fun. Here's and article that really relates to your case:

http://www.shacknews.com/article/91209/destiny-20-review-im-hooked-all-over-again

"Destiny 2.0 is exactly what I wanted the original Destiny experience to be. I wanted to travel the galaxy, complete missions, shoot at different alien species, and get cool gear. I feel liberated from the sour past of Destiny’s gear-heavy Light system, and I feel like I’m enjoying my time with Destiny once again."

Played Nightfall last night and it was the same old thing but I can't help but agree with the article, not having to worry too much about your light level and just enjoying the game. I'm not a crucible PVP guy but some of the new maps were a lot of fun to play even though I died all the time. They have teleporters and jump pads on some maps that make it so much more fun with guardians flying around and appearing out of a port only to be blown up. lol

Well, I'm back in the saddle again. I created a new guardian -- a titan -- last night and started from the very beginning. I decided against using the Spark of Light to jump to level 25 because I don't want to skip everything I missed after level 20 when I quit last year. Plus I need the tutorial from the early levels again since it has been so long since I've played.

I chose the auto rifle as my first weapon since it got a nice little boost with the 2.0 patch. I'll probably try a pulse rifle next. Last year when I played as a warlock my favorite was the scout rifle for damage and accuracy from a distance, but as a titan I'll be doing more up close fighting.

Last year when Destiny was released I only had a PS3, so it's nice getting the graphics upgrade now that I'm on Xbox One.

My main gripe so far is that the "Taken King Legendary Edition" game disc seems to contain only the base game, therefore all the expansions need to be downloaded. When you bring it home be prepared to wait for a 30GB or so download before you can start playing. Guh.

I just got the game last night and was disappointed as well with the download codes. Thought they would be on disc.

As a titan you will be the main man. Awesome class. I still play a Hunter and the Warlock is a lot of fun.

Didn't have a chance to jump on last night since the game arrived from Amazon around 10pm.

You got a lot of stuff to go through.....wow. There's the two expansions plus Taken King. Whew.

The new missions and greater emphasis on NPC character development and story is a welcome change. Too easy to get to Lvl. 40. I saved up some bounties from the last week and about half way through The Take King storyline, reached Lvl. 40. Went from Lvl. 34-38 with just one days worth of bounties.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the Taken are in the Cosmodrome on Earth. I didn't think I'd see them until I got into that expansion, but I ran into a few of them while doing level 3 patrols last night.

Has matchmaking for the crucible improved at all in 2.0? I already got a crucible quest but I know if I end up in a match full of level 40s I'd be lucky to get a single kill.

I've only played one Crucible match since the update, so I don't know... BUT... remember, regular Crucible matches (not Iron Banner, for example) don't have level advantages. Perks on armor or weapons matter, but it's even otherwise.

Right, I do Iron Banner and skip Crucible for the most part.

I heard there's some kind of new weapon fusion thing in the game.....not sure what thats about but it seems you can combine them to make better weapons?

Ah! I had forgotten that. Thanks. Basically all I remember from last year is what the bad guys look like and how to shoot them. I've been Binging (is that the Bing equivalent to "Googling"?) things such as "Destiny what level to join a faction?" and "Destiny best faction for titans."

Do I recall correctly that Bungie changed voice chat options last year sometime? I remember there was no chat available for pickup groups in strikes when I played.

My first week back in Destiny has been equal parts fun, frustration, and confusion. It's great that Bungie made leveling easier for solo players, but it seems we new/returning players have to run solo whether we like it or not. Despite joining three different Destiny communities and a clan I can't find anyone who is doing anything other than high-level raids. Finding people who are running low-level quests has been impossible. I do okay unless I try the Crota missions from Eris. I got killed five times trying to beat Crota's Fist, despite being three levels above suggested for it.

I've been listening to Destiny podcasts and reading forums, and the discussion is dominated by level 40s doing TTK content, and although all their words are English I have no idea what they are talking about most of the time. I hear references to infusing weapons, marks, and other things I've yet to experience in game.

Aside from those issues I'm enjoying the rock-solid gameplay again.

I'd play if I had the Xbox version.....luckily I have a few people who are good and don't mind doing easy stuff since I'm the one who's usually behind.

Yeah, there's a ton of (new) stuff and even veterans are figuring things out. There's a website: http://www.destinylfg.com/

...that used to be pretty good at finding others to help out.

Crota is my least favorite and most annoying raid by the way. lol..

@WestofHouse - You can add me to your friends list. I'm down for anything and play Destiny almost nightly. I'm also looking to complete all the quest lines for my main character, from beginning to end. I could help you burn through all the old stuff quickly. GT: MajorHavoc 2049

I'm part of a gaming group/clan for older gamers and you are more that welcome to join. Gunslingergaming.com

We also have a the100 group and our average age is 38. Cool group of gamers who are more than willing to help people out with quests of all levels.

I am currently struggling in Destiny. I played through the main story line and now have various quests to do... and I've been doing them. I have a few year 2 exotic armour pieces, and a couple legendary... but my chest peice is still "blue". I've infused my big ugly orange auto rifle to 245, but it is still feels like a slow weak weapon. My light is about 245. I have 46 legendary marks and not making much progress getting more.

I have to complete 5 heroic strikes, but every time I play we all quit after trying about 6-7 times and failing at the end. It feels frustrating as if I'm getting no where and spending lots of time with no gain at all. The only nice item I have is the year 2 legendary shotgun, but I see that is really common.

Kinda down on the game... I was having much more fun before the fallen king.

Cool, thanks. I added you. I'm a member of Gunslingers, too, but I haven't been on in ages. Back when I joined I was still on PS3 and almost no one there was playing the same games I was. I'll have to reintroduce myself.

I made it to level 21 last night, so I'm making good progress.

Anyone else notice that when you reach around 260 light the drops get a whole lot better? I've been getting blue engrams decrypting to Legendary items consistently. Where before I felt stuck around 240 light, suffering from a lack of Legendary armour parts / weapons, now I get so much I just break them down for marks.

I'll tell you when I get there. I still have a long way to go. I'm still level 31 with only 146 light.

Last night was an exercise in frustration for me. I tried to do the story mission called Wolves' Gambit. That's the one where you have to jump down to the Vault of Glass area and destroy orbs. I kept dying over and over for no apparent reason. It wasn't until I did some research this morning that I learned you have to destroy each orb within a certain amount of time or you will die. It would have been nice to have some hint of that in the game.

I also tried a few PVP matches. I know that level advantages are eliminated in the crucible, but weapon advantages obviously aren't. When everyone is running around with legendary weapons that can practically one-shot-kill you it isn't very fun. I'm bad at PVP to begin with, but my dinky level 30 weapon doesn't make it any easier. Basically I run around and die repeatedly until my super is charged, at which point I can finally get a kill or two.

I won't touch PVP. I'm very glad the game has changed so that I can gain rep with the FWC and not have to play Crucible.

Yup the game has always been like that and sometimes you won't realize that you need another person to do stuff.

Sometimes I'm amazed how people figure some of these things out cause on my own I have no chance.

I usually enjoy PVP in shooters, even though I'm not very good. But I prefer a more level playing field. I think I'll wait until I get a respectable weapon or two before really getting into it. But some of the crucible bounties are quite doable even for a scrub such as me.
