majestyx
Maybe I'm having a false memory or something, but I could have sworn someone posted a thread sometime last year, either here or at the yahoo group, that contained a distro for the Raspberry Pi that used MESS to run all of the PLATO software on it. Now I can't find it. So am I remembering incorrectly, or did someone actually put something like this together? I recently bought a Pi and am playing around with it every few days. Just amazing how technology has advanced. Thanks to anyone who can verify this and point me in the right direction! (Or set me straight and tell me I was dreaming...) +Ksarul
Eric Bray posted something on the Yahoo! group to describe a Plato setup he'd built for demonstrations, but it was on a Windows machine (and I think he was using Cory Burr's emulator, not MESS).It was about a year ago, IIRC.
RobertLM78
Kind of a neat idea. I'd like to see it cross-platform. The Plato package is pretty amazing still. Edited September 1, 2014 by RobertLM78

+mizapf
Please keep in mind that AdvanceMAME/MESS are unofficial releases of MAME/MESS which may be outdated by far compared to the current releases for the PC. This means that neither my fixes over the last years nor the recent additions and usage changes may be included. Currently, we do not recommend to build MAME/MESS for Raspi because of performance requirements that may very likely not be met by the hardware (and which have strongly increased during the last years). It would be interesting of course if someone tried with a recent version, though; the TI emulation seems to be one of the less demanding drivers.
majestyx
easily done with the http://blog.sheasilverman.com/2012/07/raspberry-pi-and-mess-multi-system-emulator-nes-gamegear-genesis/ Yes, I saw that site thanks to a Raspberry Pi Handbook magazine I picked up a few weeks back, which is what prompted me to go looking for it. Since I thought that someone had already put together a TI version of it, I figured why reinvent the wheel? It looks like there are two emulation projects running for the RaspPi, but neither have incorporated the TI. They are PiPlay (formerly PiMAME) and The RetroPie Project . Thanks, mizapf, for the info on AdvanceMAME/MESS.

Thanks for letting me know. I've no idea why I thought that was a RaspPi distro other than wishful thinking... which could be used to add the rest of the TI software library to it! Considering the RapbPi's raison d'etre, I'd think something like this (the entire PLATO educational software library available in one place) would be a natural for the platform. dphirschler
If it's any help, I have a sizable collection if the Plato diskettes... possibly all of them. I remember spending an entire afternoon way back just copying them from my dad's collection. But at the moment they are locked away on TI disks and I am still resurrecting my PEB... And also building a windows xp machine with 5.25" floppy drive for transferring. But when I get them transferred, I will donate them to the project. majestyx
dphirschler, you will want to check the WHTech FTP site to see what disks, if any, are missing from there in order to save yourself a lot of time and effort. Thanks for offering to contribute!

Omega-TI
The entire PLATO series for the TI-99/4A is available here for the Win emulator. You can download the 48 Megabyte file << HERE >> It can only be downloaded for a week, so don't wait too long. ENJOY!

Darryl There certainly is PLATO stuff on WHTech: ftp://ftp.whtech.com/emulators/pc99/pc99%20dsk%20collection/Plato/ There are other places on WHTech with PLATO files, as well.
