Nintendo Penguin #1 Posted March 21, 2003 So I was GameCrazy tonight, and the wanted $69.99 for an NES and $35.99 for an SNES! That seems quite high to me! I can only assume that since GameStop will no longer be carrying NES and SNES and since there is no other competetion in the area, the can gouge Nintendo prices as there is no other competition. Hmmm..... maybe it is time for me to open up shop!
Miqorz #2 Posted March 21, 2003 This is getting out of hand... I walked into a Pawn Shop and saw a complete DC in MINT condition for 25 dollars...right next to it.. a NES with no hook ups for 40.
Brad2600 #3 Posted March 21, 2003 I have about 3 NES systems..none work. It would be too much of a risk to pay $70 for that goddamn toaster model! I almost with that Nintendo had stuck with the design of the original Famicom when they decided to bring it over here. I'm bidding on a top loader now. chrisbid #4 Posted March 21, 2003 top loaders arent that much better. Get a 72 pin connector from MCM Electronics for 6 bucks for your spring loader. They work very very well.
Cassidy Nolen #5 Posted March 21, 2003 I sell refurbed NES with warranty and 5 games on ebay all the time for 85 plus 15 shipping. I do the same with Atari's and 10 games. Sold a SNES with 6 games for 120! The difference is, I have actually gone through all of my stuff, and refurb doesn't just mean wiping off. Those prices are not that nutty. All of us here are on the "in". If you knew how much markup there was on other stuff (cars, car repair, groceries) it would make you sick. Those are retail prices, and they would not sell them at those numbers if there were not people willing to pay. Cassidy
Brad2600 #6 Posted March 21, 2003 top loaders arent that much better. Get a 72 pin connector from MCM Electronics for 6 bucks for your spring loader. They work very very well. Some people don't have the time or patience to repair NES. Add to the fact that I cannot get any of the NES systems I have open. Just thought it would be easier to get a toploader. King Atari #7 Posted March 21, 2003 I'd love to get a top loader, but the thing holding me back is that they (reportedly) have no AV jacks, which is always my preferred method of hooking up systems (but the thing does look d*mn cool). And frankly, for all of it's problems, I love the NES, blinking and all (well, not the blinking). I guess growing up with it did something to me. chrisbid #8 Posted March 21, 2003 the top loader does not have AV, you have to mod your system to add it the spring loaded NES uses regular phillipshead screws, there shouldnt be much problem getting one open http://www.classicgaming.com/features/arti...cles/nesrepair/ this article shows you what youll see inside. If you have three boxes, id highly recommend repairing them and make yourself a tidy profit for yourself on ebay.
Brad2600 #9 Posted March 21, 2003 I have a phillips screwdriver but for some reason, the screws refuse to budge when I try taking apart the NES systems. I'd eventually like to fix 'em all up and keep 1 of them. I'm bidding on a top loader anyway.
Rockin' Kat #10 Posted March 21, 2003 I have a phillips screwdriver but for some reason, the screws refuse to budge when I try taking apart the NES systems. Perhaps your not using the right size Philups screw driver... if you arn't using one that's exactly the right size it can be a real pain to open. Either that or it's too fat to fit in the hole, or too short to reach the screws.... Out of all the screw drivers I've found in my house only one of them has the right tip and can actually reach far enough in to reach the screws. The point size by the way is a #1 if I'm not mistaken. Jasoco #11 Posted March 22, 2003 Wow.. that link is good. I'll have to try that before I decide to plunk down money for a new connector. Cool.
chrisbid #12 Posted March 22, 2003 for 5.99 though, a new connector is a steal, and that link gets you about 85% through the replacement process. Your 15 year old NES is going to have some corrosion on the connector
jsoper #13 Posted March 22, 2003 I have a phillips screwdriver but for some reason, the screws refuse to budge when I try taking apart the NES systems. I'm surprised no one has made a "try turning counter-clockwise" joke by now. What a nice polite newsgroup
Jasoco #14 Posted March 22, 2003 I have a phillips screwdriver but for some reason, the screws refuse to budge when I try taking apart the NES systems. I'm surprised no one has made a "try turning counter-clockwise" joke by now. What a nice polite newsgroup LOL. Yeah. In 1999 I bought a dead NES off eBay.. (It was As Is and was my first eBay purchase.) and I tried to open it at the time the screws wouldn't budge. So it went into a box for 4 years. I just got it out again and the screws came out so easily. So.. just plop it in a box for 4 years. That'll loosen the screws.
Brad2600 #15 Posted March 24, 2003 for 5.99 though, a new connector is a steal, and that link gets you about 85% through the replacement process. Your 15 year old NES is going to have some corrosion on the connector I will consider buying from that company since $5.99 is wayyy cheaper than EBay. I can get 3 connectors for a little under $20, repair all 3 systems I have and sell 2 of them on EBay with a common game, hookups and a controller or 2. I think it would be better. By the way, canceled my bids on the toploaders. I couldn't afford them now anyway.
ApolloBoy #16 Posted March 25, 2003 I just happen to have a top-loader. It's not for sale, though. I'd never give it up!
Mock #17 Posted March 25, 2003 I just bought a Top Loader for $99 (ouch!) but...wtf...I wanted one...have about 6 of the toasters in the basement...might try getting some new connectors because I think only 2 of them don't require work to get the games to work...I mean...they all work if you are really lucky...but 2 work like every time with no effort. Jasoco #18 Posted March 25, 2003 If I had known back in 1992 that I'd still have our old NES and would still want to play it, I would have begged Dad to pick up a Top Loader.
goatdan #19 Posted March 25, 2003 The thing that I don't understand about the whole NES eBay situation is that on eBay, if you sell one or two common games, you get a buck or two for them. If you sell 300 common games, you get $2000.00 for them. It's enough to make me think about putting all the GOAT Store's games into one auction, and probably getting more money for that then selling them all seperately over time. By the way, if anyone wants a bunch of NESes that are crapped out and I can't get to work, I'll mail them to you for the cost of shipping only (about $10-20 depending on how close to Wisconsin you are). First email or PM gets them, unless no one does and then the local garbage men get them
Jasoco #20 Posted March 25, 2003 They'd be nice to play around with. Too bad I don't have money right now or I'd take you up on that.
