Master Phruby #2 Posted September 12, 2014 I'm going to have to bury my E.T. cart in the backyard for a week or two and print me up a certificate of authenticity. I can make a killing on ebay!!!
Keatah #3 Posted September 12, 2014 These museums are so full of shit. They have no idea how to do a proper videogames exhibit. All high and mighty, fuck you!!!
CatPix #4 Posted September 13, 2014 They did a pretty good job at the "Retro Game Story" at the Grand Palais... but it was temporary and made by a club, not the museum itself. One can still hope the money from those carts will be used for digging more and maybe recover more than unsold stocks?
fiddlepaddle #5 Posted September 13, 2014 I'll be interested to see how many people are willing to pay a premium for these games (not me). My guess? maybe a hundred or two...
Keatah #6 Posted September 13, 2014 Well, yes, it's done by a club. And a band of enthusiasts would have a better idea of how a games display should be set up as opposed to some old gasser in stuffy smithsonian academic setting. I'm just appalled at what I read the other day. I still say the best "museums" will be extensive collections. Emulated or Real. Preferably a combination of the two. CatPix #7 Posted September 13, 2014 And what did you read about? Here where I live, temporary exhibitions and "popular" museum are growing; unlike more academic museums, they are meant to be entertaining, with more visual things, targeted to everyday's life items you'll never see in the Louvre or at the Hermitage. So, a permanent museum of video gaming, with working machines you can play (even if it's through emulation - I believe that's what they did at the Game Story for some systems - wiring the old controllers to a PC and output the display on a cathodic TV) it can exist. And the Smithsonian can go their own way too...
Seob #8 Posted September 13, 2014 Here in the Netherlands there is a dedicated games museum run by 2 collectors. And from what i here it's pretty big. Have to go there someday to see for myself. Http://www.spelcomputermuseum.nl
