New Polo Release at PC4 Announced tonight

Recommended Posts

All right,

Finally, with very sore hands, I am pleased to announce there WILL be a new boxed version of Atari Polo available at the Philly Classic next week.

I just got back from the printers, and I assure you, these are the nicest boxes I could have ever imagined for this game. Osmeriod outdid himself on this artwork, and after an airmail from the UK, and 4 hours on a quarter million dollar printing machine, POLO LIVES!

The boxes are printed on true box material, not laser paper. I also splurged and had the manuals and labels done there as well. The manuals and labels shoud be a semi gloss, while the box has a satin finish, complete with all the red-box era details (same as Bugs Bunny).

Currently, there are 22 copies. I will work throughout the weekend and attempt to reach my goal of 50 boxed copies for the show. If David Newman says ok, I plan on releasing the game at 7 p.m. Friday night. I will be taking requests for more if these sell out (I have no idea if they will, but I know people will FREAK out over the quality!). I just cannot afford any more money being tied up in the project right now. This little trip to the printers was 5 times what I thought it would be. I promise you, its worth it.

The game itself is the classic Carol Shaw program, but with a fantastic introduction and title screen by game legend Christopher Tumber. Each cart will be complete with box, manual, full color labels, box insert and storage/presentation bag (thats the way I keep all of my boxes, figure you may like one too!). I have sent some photos of the boxes to Albert, and I hope he can put them on the AA page.

Thanks for all the support guys. I really do love this stuff. Can't wait to share these efforts with you all very soon!

Just out of curiosity has anyone tried to contact Carol and see if she's ok with this? I don't like the idea of selling prototype copies of games where we know who the programmer is and we know they're still around. Just doesn't seem right. I doubt she'd have a problem with it though, but it would be nice to ask.

I talked to her about it last year before I released the green edition. She gave me her consent, and I also contacted Infrogrames. All on the up and up.

Hey, if you need last-minute help assembling boxes or applying labels like they did last year with SCSIcide, you know who to call on. ;)

What did Infogrames have to say? I'd be shocked if they gave you VERBAL permission. Corporations can't rely on something as shaky as a verbal OK, which is why they never okay any of this sort of thing, because it just costs them legal fees to draft things up on paper.

37 boxes done! Hands, hurting. Must...sleep...

Now off to make more carts to go into those boxes...

In addition to the Polos, I have a ton of stuff to sell, so that all had to be cleaned, priced and tested. Also bringing a ton of arcade machines. I am not kidding you, I have a CONVOY of people helping drag all this junk to Philly this week.

Osmeroid is flying over from England Wednesday, and going up to the show with us. He thinks its going to be a relaxing few days before Philly. He he, we'll show him otherwise! At least Guiness is available as payment!

I will be there friday nite to pick up my copy, and will start a fund to support you in your later years, when you can no longer pick up a pen to grade your students English papers, thanks to the carpel-tunnel syndrome that this project caused.

What will be the difference between this new edition and the green one that I bought last year from you?

:? :? :?

That poor man is going to be SO drunk. I already owe him a Guinness as it is - I wonder how many of us on the board can say the same? :D

Pit Bull,

As far as the game play, its the same. I wanted to archive the game with an intro screen, and Chris Tumber was able to develop one (although a bit querky on some systems) that looks GREAT!. The game is a 2K, and I was using a program doubler to fill the extra 2K. Now the game has a 2k opening, and all new box design.

Osmeroid worked his rear off on the new art and manuals. The boxes and all were HUGE files, and he actually had to send the info via CDROM to me in the mail (no internet this time!).

Os, I have a feeling you will like the basement. MMF, you are right. I think about a million people want to buy him a beverage. Poor Brit!
