Flojomojo #1 Posted September 24, 2014 I always liked Berzerk. I knew about Frenzy but can't remember playing it in the arcade. I'm rediscovering the ColecoVision version via the ColecoVision Flashback, and I like the little tunes it plays. I know the arcade version of Frenzy talked ("Robot Attack!"), but my version in MAME doesn't have music. I wouldn't think the ColecoVision version would be capable of speech, not in 1982 or 1983, and certainly not without bragging about it. Did the arcade version of Frenzy have music? +Tarzilla #2 Posted September 24, 2014 (edited) The arcade original has no music. Source: My original Frenzy arcade game in my basement. The Colecovision tune is nice, many people that only played the Coleovision version note it's absence when finally playing the arcade machine, either for real or in MAME. +Tarzilla #4 Posted September 25, 2014 I haven't played the Colecovision version in a while, but I believe the home version is missing the arcade levels where all walls are white and reflective.

It's the same thing with SPACE FURY and GORF. The arcade versions of both those games used synthesized speech. ~Ben
+freewheel #6 Posted September 26, 2014 While I'm sure this will bring out some naysayers and nitpickers, if you ever want to see how a game played in the arcade, fire up MAME. They are ridiculously anal to getting the emulation perfect.

They are ridiculously anal to getting the emulation perfect. Of course ... which is why I thought it strange that the home version of Frenzy had a feature that seemed to be missing from the arcade version. I prefer the music, personally. It was strange in the olden days to have the home version to be a little better than the arcade. I'm old enough to think that if it was in the arcade, it was awesome. It blew my mind when this flipped the other way, when N64 San Francisco Rush had so many more modes, PSX Tekken 1/2/3 had so many extras, and Dreamcast Soul Calibur ran in a higher resolution than the arcade versions. When the 1990s game magazines started talking about "just another arcade port," I think I died a little inside.
Bartsfam #8 Posted September 30, 2014 I always loved the CV version of Frenzy music so much, that I made ringtones out of them some years back. I still use them today, and when my phone rings, I always get...."What is that, Donkey Kong?" The ColecoVision version does include the reflective white wall levels. It also has Stravinsky's "Rites of Spring" as its pause music.
Bill Loguidice #10 Posted September 30, 2014 I always liked Frenzy on the ColecoVision. Outside of the missing speech, it made some nice improvements over the arcade version without mucking with what made the game fun. It would have been nice if more ColecoVision home ports followed that lead.
cimerians #11 Posted September 30, 2014 I kind of like Lady Bug better on the CV only because spelling SPECIAL on the CV gave you a veggie hunt rather than a free game like in the arcade (MAME). I never played that game in the arcade but I was disappointed about the SPECIAL feature. Another game I like better on the CV is Frogger.
