z28in82 #3 Posted March 26, 2003 #1 I'd have to dig up my original GB to see the code on mine #2 I've never been one for breakin down codes, sorry maybe NSA can help ya there  Didn't really have anything worth saying here but I didn't want you to fell as though you were being ingored or anything. I just don't know
glitch #4 Posted March 26, 2003 I looked around but couldn't find any break down of the original GB serial #s. As near as I can tell they may have just been a numerical count. I looked at both of my grey bricks and they are both dated 1989 w/ a model # of DMG-01. One of them I know is from 1991 (maybe 92)because that's when I bought it. The other I picked up 2nd hand so I cannot say it's actually from around that time or later. Only one serial # is still complete and it is G15514006. The other I can read G1 and the rest is torn. Other than the "G" I can't see any correlation between your SN# and mine. I do know that they changed the screen installation procedures around the G02850000 mark to fix a soldering issue w/ the displays and if you had a model # before that they would fix it free of charge. That means the the #'s were always increasing and that each digit is different between the 3 different #s.
Ze_ro #5 Posted March 28, 2003 I have two, and both say 1989 on the back... although the serial numbers have long since worn off due to lots of use. It's worth noting that one of them (the older one... possibly from one of the earliest production runs) uses phillips screws instead of the retarded tri-wing screws that Nintendo seems to like using on the Gameboys... --Zero
Bratwurst #6 Posted March 28, 2003 Given how many of the brick gameboys sold I'd speculate it is highly improbable that ALL of them were made in 1989! I'm sure if you scrutinize the backs of NES game pads and other plastic moldings they will all share 'set in stone' dates, most likely the year of patent! Cheerio!
