+iesposta #301 Posted January 27, 2015 mthom... Does anyone have a collection or games for Mame that works with the Raspberry emulator? I have games but so many of them do not work with the version of Mame in Retropie. My games work fine on my PC. you would be looking for 'MAME4ALL 037b5' or 'MAME4ALL 037b11' ROMS
pimpmaul69 #302 Posted January 27, 2015 Try this. Open up /opt/retropie/emulators/adamem-1.80/adamem.cfg You will see a line that says: -video 2 Remove this line and see what happens to your video. if you were talking to me, this didnt change anything. pimpmaul69 #303 Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) mthompson got the Coleco emulator to work so we know it works...if just kind of. I did test my image but starting fresh with 2.4.2 and copying all my files over and playing the emulators. The Colecovision emulator is configured to work with the Ultimate Interface. I understand some of you might just be copying files over. Maybe you can start with a fresh image and copy all the contents over with 7777 permissions. I use "root" to copy the files over. All I can say is that it works perfectly for me on my 1920x1080 tv. I used the adamem.sh because exiting the emulator was not returning to Emulation Station. Does anyone have a collection or games for Mame that works with the Raspberry emulator? I have games but so many of them do not work with the version of Mame in Retropie. My games work fine on my PC. ok so i deleted the adamen files setting permissions tested noticed all the files were 0 bytes. Deleted reloaded set permissions and it worked. First game i tried was alcazar and it exited out just fine back to the menu. I do have -video 2 removed from the cfg. EDIT: tried several games. All exit back to es. I do get an error when i try to load the homebrew princess quest Edited January 27, 2015 by pimpmaul69
Rev #304 Posted January 27, 2015 Im probably off topic. But oh well.... Has anyone bought one of those curved 4k Tv's and tried some retro gaming yet? You need Hdmi for 4k? Idk And does Pi output hdmi 4k resolution? Sorry for nooby questions. Ive been contemplating a 4K tv purchase. Im envisioning ultra crystal clear retro goodness! mthompson #305 Posted January 27, 2015 (edited) Try this. Open up /opt/retropie/emulators/adamem-1.80/adamem.cfg You will see a line that says: -video 2 Remove this line and see what happens to your video. I've tried all three video modes and it still doesn't behave correctly. Video mode 1 sometimes works, but the output is small and out of proportion. It's definitely an issue of the Pi trying to reset the video output when exiting the emulator. Sometimes the video reverts to normal, sometimes it flickers while back in EmulationStation, sometimes it just stays blank. I also tried adding a -chipset value, but then the emulator wouldn't run. Is there something to try in the run command to set the video? Adamem doesn't seem to have too many video options. BTW, all this is on a fresh SD card with v2.4.2 image and copying over files logged in as root. I also changed all permissions in the adamem-1.80 folder to 777. I had to cause it was on the wrong video setting. Dont change rom setting only emulater setting. Edited January 27, 2015 by pimpmaul69

Dont change rom setting only emulater setting. Yep, I think that did the trick. DMT-16 seems to be the best and is working consistently. Is this setting stored in a file I haven't found yet? Is there a keyboard trick to pause the Pi and stop the command line messages from scrolling by so fast?

It is something built into emulation station. The way to overide it is put the resolution in the es_systems.cfg under each emulater like dave did with intv. I dont like this way because the pressing m way lets you change it when you change tv's Edited January 27, 2015 by pimpmaul69

I was able to configure the video the same way, and now Stella seems to quit properly, which it didn't do before. I'm still seeing some of that same problem with Adamem, but not as often as before. Most importantly, the games run.

For Colecovision, you have to put it in the CFG. You might not like this approach but then you will not get the fullest resolution. The reason I hesitated to release the Coleco emulator was because of the issues you all are having. At least we know with a clean image and full copy that it does work. At least we know with a clean image and full copy that it does work. you can in fact control the resolution with pressing m after selecting a game. Once i got the coleco emu working i had to change the resolution. I set all the game systems resolutions this way. It will actually over power the resolution set by the emulater. The gameboy resolution was cutting off the top and bottom. I fixed it by changing the resolution this way. I can control any emus resolution this way which is great for switching between tvs. Also i have no issues with the emu at all now. Runs great. No lockups on exit or anything Edited January 28, 2015 by pimpmaul69
intvdave #314 Posted January 28, 2015 How much of the screen is the Coleco covering? Did you remove the jzIntv switch from the command line? Do you have it running at 1920x1080 without the switch?

I'm very happy to get my stuff working well enough to play games and try out some systems and games I haven't even seen before. I tried to get Adamem working on my own and couldn't, so I really appreciate your effort and generosity. The questions I've posted have mostly been small things to solve. No deal breakers, as it turned out. In the end, it's been way cooler than the other game "system" I got working today (no joke):

In the end, it's been way cooler than the other game "system" I got working today (no joke): When I was testing the Coleco emulator after refreshing my memory card, my kid sat down with me and we started playing Frogger. We were comparing it to the Odyssey version (which no one has commented on). Instead of me sitting down just to test, it turned into a playing session. This is what it is all about! Sharing it with the kid!

Do you have it running at 1920x1080 without the switch?yes i have it running 1920 x 1080 without the switch. I had 2 seperate intellivision emus for resolution but i only do one now that i can control it with this method. I removed the video option from coleco config and control it with this. All the other emus i have use this config
pimpmaul69 #318 Posted January 28, 2015 @intvdave: I was wrong about the intellivision. I thought i could control it but i cant. All the other emus i can though including coleco
pimpmaul69 #319 Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) One thing i noticed playing intellivision on retropie version 2.4.2 is that they corrected the oversizing the screen problem. In the old version the sides got cut off. Now you get the entire game displayed properly on the screen. On the plus side of setting this up for anyone else i backed up all of the changes and additions from the original image so i dont have to have any kind of headache doing this again. Except that upgrading to 2.4.2 they changed filenames of every emulater file and folders and removed several emulaters so i had to spend a whole day fixing everything Edited January 28, 2015 by pimpmaul69

mthompson #321 Posted January 28, 2015 Just noticed that when I use my new 2.4.2 disk image, the controllers are reversed, left and right, only for Intellivision games. Obvious in games like Armor Battle and Baseball. When I switch back to my 2.3 card, controllers are normal. Any clues where this is being reversed, what file to delete or correct? I've seen this occasionally using the Ultimate Interface on a regular computer, but unplugging and plugging it back in fixed it. I tried that on the Pi with no luck. Draugr #323 Posted January 29, 2015 Is there anyway to have a music (mp3) file play when a user is browsing through the game list looking to launch a game within Emulationstation?
intvdave #324 Posted January 29, 2015 It might be the hackfile. I reversed mine so my kid could play with the right controller but controller the left player. I forgot if it was for Shark Shark or Bump-n-Jump. Try this file. It should be put in the /opt/retropie/emulators/jzintv folder if you are using 2.4.2 hackfile.zip

This update fixed the problem instantly. If the file in the package is the old hackfile, I recommend using this one instead. Thanks for the fix!
