mthompson #326 Posted January 29, 2015 Is there anyway to have a music (mp3) file play when a user is browsing through the game list looking to launch a game within Emulationstation? Some of the Astrosmash tracks would make for great game-browsing music.
intvdave #327 Posted January 29, 2015 Success. It was the hackfile. This update fixed the problem instantly. If the file in the package is the old hackfile, I recommend using this one instead. Thanks for the fix! I updated the package on the website.

DO NOT CHANGE MEMORY TO 384. it will boot to a white screen if you do. got vectrex, snes, genesis, and nes running smoothly at this speed #uncomment to overclock the arm. 700 MHz is the default. arm_freq=1050 <----- only needs to be 1000. i dont lock up at 1050 # for more options see http://elinux.org/RPi_config.txt core_freq=500 sdram_freq=500 over_voltage=6 avoid_safe_mode=1 gpu_mem=384 overscan=1 disable_splash=1 Edited January 29, 2015 by pimpmaul69
pimpmaul69 #330 Posted January 29, 2015 (edited) hey dave, is it normal in the 5200 to have to start a game with the right controller top button then play with the left controller? If this is how it has to be, is there a keyboard key to start a game? Edit: i found the f3 is the start and f9 exits. For the purpose of an overlay can you tell me what each button on the right controller does? Edited January 29, 2015 by pimpmaul69

mthompson #332 Posted January 29, 2015 I spent time with the Vectrex emulator today and configured Intv controller mapping for use with the games. Attached is a copy of my config file along with overlays for Intellivision and ColecoVision controllers. Overclocking might be necessary, as suggested earlier, to get Vectrex running at a better speed than the default, but my moon lander crashes plenty fast already Vectrex overlays & config.zip
Draugr #333 Posted January 29, 2015 Attached is a copy of my config file along with overlays for Intellivision and ColecoVision controllers Great overlay work yet again! Wish there was someone who could make physical overlays of these for a small price, I'd definitely purchase them.

I'm going to look into this. Most likely be a Clear Plastic Print with a backing material. I'm not a tech guru, but I'm pretty creative for something like this on a small scale. Could do a 13X19 sheet at a time. Cheap home lamination would be too thick and lame...but I have I idea. If I can figure it out it will be just something for the community not a profit venture. KevinMos3 #335 Posted January 30, 2015 I'm trying to get this set up, but having nothing but problems so far. I first installed the 2.4.2 retropie. Then, once booted up, I enabled SSH and logged in with Filezilla. I was NOT able to copy over the files from retro-intv-24x.zip. I get permissions errors. I tried changing permissions of the files/folders from Filezilla, but it gives permissions errors. I tried changing the permissions of the files/folders within retropie that need files copied over to them, but once this was finished, I could no longer log in with Filezilla... or WinSCP. For the heck of it, I reformatted the SD card with the initial 2.4.2 image, copied over my Intellivision ROMs, and scraped for boxart and info, but when I try to load the games, I get an error that the exec can't be found. It looks like those files go in a folder that I can't access over SFTP. I can play Atari 2600 roms just fine, but I don't want to play those on my Intellivision Flashback. First of all... All I want to do is have the Intellivision emulator running so I can make it into an Ultimate Intellivision Flashback like Todd initially did. I don't care to have a bunch of other emus on this. Second of all... (I don't mean to be rude, but) how the heck do I get the darn thing up and running? I've already wasted about 5 hours on this and gotten nowhere. Can someone PLEASE give simple, thorough instructions on how to get this working? Then, once that's accomplished, maybe how to get it to just go straight to the Intellivision emulator? intvdave #336 Posted January 30, 2015 (edited) Which ID did you login with? PI or root? I am guessing PI. Try root. If you tried root already, then something is messed up as you should not have seen permission errors. Imagine how many hours we put in to get ours working. BBWW #337 Posted January 30, 2015 Will these be able to be copied from MiroSD card to USB Storage and be some what portable from Raspberry Pi box to box? Just curious or if you need to copy via command line. It would be cool to be able to image/clone the working SD card and have another unit, just work. mthompson #341 Posted January 30, 2015 I'm getting good help here on AtariAge getting this set up. I want to do another one for Arlo...so I want to back everything up on an extra microSD card if possible so WHEN I screw up and can go back. LOL The utility I use to format the card and install disc images also lets me back up the disc image. ApplePi-Baker for the Mac works great. Or you can copy back the important folders & files manually with FTP. I do both. Too much work getting things set up, and you know another RetroPie disc image will be coming at some point. +iesposta #343 Posted January 30, 2015 I like how you are showing "them" how to make the Ultimate HDMI Retro plug and play machine, but it won't get made. If it were to be made it would fail because it would be too high priced for an impulse purchase. And "they" still would not be able to use these great emulators and would have to write their own, and then the licensing of content... Unless it had an SD slot that would allow hacking in new emulatirs and content. Then it would have a chance of success. I like an interference free display, but would prefer a CRT look with scan lines and filters that recreate the original blur and blending you get on CRT's. Stella's Blarg filters are a good start, but although they seem to recreate the connection-type look, I still think something's lacking in the blending vertically. Can someone PLEASE give simple, thorough instructions on how to get this working? Then, once that's accomplished, maybe how to get it to just go straight to the Intellivision emulator? You definitely need to be logged in as "root" when you FTP. It also doesn't hurt to change the permissions for the folders you'll be using to 777. There are definitely some permission issues with this disk image that resetting permissions seems to fix. If you see an error message mentioning permissions when an emulator fails to start, reset file permissions for the emulator and configs. If you install only Intellivision game files and remove the others that come preinstalled, that's the only system that will show up. You can also control what order multiple systems show by re-ordering them in the ex_systems.cfg file. As intvdave said, we've all spent hours getting things set up and configured the way we want them, and I personally have reformatted and started fresh in the early going. It's frustrating at times, but it's a project and not quite plug-and-play. If you copy intvdave's Intellivision files over (at least the emulator folder, the es_systems.cfg file, and some game roms), it should be all set to be a dedicated HD Intellivision. This is a great community of people, really active and willing to help each other out. I did not mean to imply anything but my admiration in my own weird way....the is an impressive bunch of folks up here. Thanks to all of you. Now back to my guano cave. intvdave #347 Posted January 31, 2015 I found some configuration issues and have fixed them. The Odyssey emulator works well. Vectrex keys can be mapped correctly but performance is poor requiring you to overclock the PI (I have mine set to 800 and will not go higher). Turbografx 16 works well. We are also looking into a new Ultimate firmware that will allow you to use 2 keys to exit the emulator as is possible in the Intellivision. I hope to post an update to my package this weekend. pimpmaul69 #350 Posted January 31, 2015 (edited) So is there any advantage for me to upgrade from v2.3 to v2.4.2 beta if v2.3 is working just fine for me?forgot to add, they changed the names of the emulatorcores folder, the emulaters, and the name of the file in the emulater folders so you will have to make changes in es_systems.cfg accordingly if you use your own es_systems.cfg. I added some emulaters that they removed in the new one as i use retroarch.cfg to have an option to exit. Dgen is now used in sega master system and genesis and has a cfg in the /configs/all foder that is easy to set up. Some systems dont work with the system they were assigned to in the new one. (Ie: sega cd, sega 32x and gamegear are assigned to dgen even though dgen cant run them) Edited January 31, 2015 by pimpmaul69
