cybercylon #26 Posted November 7, 2014 Oh…I completely forgot….Eternal Darkness on the Game Cube. That game really messes with your head. I won't say how, just in case there are any late comers to that party. If you haven't played that game, I would highly recommend it…just for the cool "mess with your head" features. Good one! Had forgotten about this one, and it was one of my favorites from that era. I think this holds up well too. It has been so long that I would play it again...alas, GC stuff long gone, and any popular GC title seems to go at a premium these days, even though this game had a decent print run as far as I know.

Chuck D. Head #28 Posted November 7, 2014 Late to the party here; you guys already hit on the first two I thought of. The first such moment was Yar's Revenge and especially the first time I hit that bastard quotile in mid-flight, what a blast! The biggest was Metroid Prime (also my favorite game of all time) the depth of it, the music, the visuals and the genius way the controls were set up just blew my my mind. The other that comes to mind was the first time I saw Super Mario Bros on the NES. I was a die-hard Atari guy and resented the fact that Atari was down the tubes and this new console was being raved about by all the bandwagon jumpers, etc. So when I saw SMB, I knew that that things just totally changed, but it took three years for me to stop being a hater and get an NES. mentalblockstudios #29 Posted November 7, 2014 For me it was super metroid….. I know this sounds cliche for obvious reasons but it was the first game that ever really made me feel immersed… like I was there… .the music, the sound fx and then to top it those perfect gloomy dark yet just enough colour graphics… I got lost in that game so many times it was awesome
SoulBlazer #30 Posted November 8, 2014 A lot of people mentioned the ones that came to mind for me already -- Eternal Darkness, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid -- but there a few others that came to mind: 1) Metroid for the NES, finding out that Samus was a woman at the end! As a young kid it just blew my mind that 'he' ended up being a 'she'! 2) F-Zero for the SNES. The graphics and Mode-7 combined with the fast gameplay just really was amazing when it came out. 3) Final Fantasy 7 and 8 have been mentioned already, but both games were just awesome with the graphics (former) and cutscenes (latter) 4) GTA 3 for the Playstation. The freedom to do what you want and the over the top gameplay was just so much fun! 5) Morrowind for the PC. How such a massive game could flow so smoothly, have tons to do, and be so open ended. nanochess #32 Posted November 8, 2014 I remember a few right now... 1. Alone in the Dark, the ghost dancers and how they beautifully dance and disappear when you put the right music. 2. Resident Evil, when the girl descends a rope and you can choose to wait or not for your partner, the decision shapes the game! 3. Wolfenstein 3-D, when opening the final door of the first episode and I saw a big guy with big weapons, probably my jaw dropped to floor. 4. Digger (Windmill Software), when I finally discovered the little emerald-eating monster could shoot! 5. Day of the Tentacle, when the tentacle wants to conquer the world, and of course the final scene when the flag comes up. 6. Space Quest 1, when you get into the escape pod for the first time. 7. Metal Gear 1 (MSX), a common game until you trigger the bomb, the music makes it epic. 8. Cave Story, when you discover you could win the game but you chose the coward's end... +frankodragon #34 Posted November 8, 2014 When I first played Super Mario Bros. and beat world one. I thought that was the only world and I beat the game, but then there was a another completely different world after that! Then there was hearing the awesome intro music to The Lost Vikings for the SNES for the first time.
