I'm sure you need a correct size and shape plug.

traindriver69
Maybe I should also say it is a uk supply
Sub(Function(:))
In the input/mains cable you should have two wires; one blue and one brown. The Brown one goes to the Live pin of the plug, this is the one with a inline fuse connected, The Blue cable goes to the Neutral pin of the plug. The top pin (its a longer pin) is for earth connections this isn't used, for this Power unit. ALSO Please make sure you have a low rated fuse in the fuse holder of the plug (3 Amps should be OK). Dont leave the default 13 AMP fuse in.
traindriver69
that is just the point they are not both wires are black
Knimrod
I would say that it doesn't matter. The wires simply go to the transformer's primary winding. The secondary winding is isolated and there is no common earth ground connection so a ground fault isn't really possible.
Audronic
@traindriver69 If you have a multimeter, before you do anything please check the continuity of both the Primary (Black wires) and the other wires (secondary). There usually is reason for the plug to be removed. Good Luck Ray
Sub(Function(:))
that is just the point they are not both wires are black Then this is the seconday (9V ac output) cable. DO NOT wire this to the mains!!!!!!
Sub(Function(:))
can you take a photo of the PSU. Showing all the cables?

traindriver69
as you can see from the pics the wires are not for the output
Sub(Function(:))
Interesting, Mine are all different to that, and that is about 8 of them. OK then just wire up the two bare wires to live and neutral pins of the mains plug. One to each. The internal transformer won't care. Only issue might be an internal fuse. But plugs are externally fused in the UK anyway. remember 3 Amp fuse should be fine. Edited November 27, 2014 by Sub(Function(:))
Joey Z
IIRC, the atari 9vac transformers didn't have polarized plugs anyway, so assuming the trafo is fine, you can just put a plug on it and it will be no worse than the original atari supply.
