Is it essential to pre-plan a route that will allow you to get the crown to the top of the mountain before time runs out?

It's been years but I don't recall having to do this. The environment is not as large as it seems. It loops around to the same point if you travel left or right IIRC, so you're never too far away from where you need to go. GREAT, under-rated and greatly overlooked game. A real gem.

Even when I can manage to stay away from the bats I always run out of time a level or two below the surface, much less try to climb the mountain. After a while I've just given up on it because it never changes.

Digital Press has a text file of the manual and another good source for game tips would be YouTube videos... even if the video is for another system, it should be pretty similar.
