TaskenLander #26 Posted December 13, 2014 Thanks for all the feedback. What if, though, you just want one 'cause you think it 'looks cool'?
Lost Dragon #27 Posted December 13, 2014 @remowilliams-There was a time i'd of loved a Vita, but those memory card prices simply killed all interest for me. Plus rumour had it Jeff was bringing the game to PS3? and as i've seen with Sony and PSP games over the years, it's often not that long before the games appear on PS2 or PS3 in HD collections etc. So i'm content to wait and see what happens and hope Jeff does bring it to either Ps3 or PS4 (or both). TwinChargers #28 Posted December 13, 2014 I own quite a few systems, but the Jaguar isn't one of them. The absolute only reason I would pick one up is to say "I have a Jaguar" and feeling as if I'm hardcore. For as much as what they go for, I will have to probably have to stay my softcore self. I do have a Commodore 16 computer, so I must be semi-hardcore though, right?
mbd30 #29 Posted December 13, 2014 Jaguar is supposed to have good versions of Raiden, Rayman and Doom. If you're a fan of those games and don't want to play them on a PC or disc based system, you can play them on the Jaguar.
Austin #30 Posted December 13, 2014 What if, though, you just want one 'cause you think it 'looks cool'? If you're willing to and are OK with shelling the money out for one just to sit around as a paper weight, then by all means go for it. No one is stopping you. BassGuitari #31 Posted December 13, 2014 What if, though, you just want one 'cause you think it 'looks cool'? That's probably the best thing about the Jaguar. (I kid, I kid...mostly.)
82-T/A #32 Posted December 13, 2014 Bottom line, there are some good fun games... if you can get the system cheap, then go for it. But I give the same advice to video game enthusiasts as I do to car collectors. Unless you have a bazillion dollars, don't start buying up anything and everything. What you'll end up with is probably a LOT of crap, no time to play with it, and tons of money lost or tied up in stuff you shouldn't have bought in the first place. That's definitely what you'll end up with if you go for a Jag collection these days.
+save2600 #34 Posted December 13, 2014 ^ but at least you can always get your money back out of it and them! Can't say that about most systems. Especially them new fangled optical disc based systems.

Tenorman #36 Posted December 13, 2014 To me, the base system has enough good games where it is worth owning. The CD attachment though is completely not worth the money unless you are REALLY into Jaguar.
+save2600 #37 Posted December 13, 2014 Tell that to Buddies.... Haha, oh yeah - but you're talking about the really weird, esoteric and hard to find hardcore collector stuff. He caught the bug big time and probably went a little overboard snagging some things up... probably what ended up burning him out? I'm talking about the regular system and games for the most part. CatPix #38 Posted December 14, 2014 To me, the base system has enough good games where it is worth owning. The CD attachment though is completely not worth the money unless you are REALLY into Jaguar. Before recently all Jag Homebrew have been released on Cd, so it's one reason to own it. I suppose. Maybe if one day I found one in a garage sale for, let's say, 20€ at best, with games (so up to 30/4€depending on the numbers of games and stuff) well I'll get one. But otherwise nope. I mean if there is Jaguar fans, it's because some games have to be good, right? I felt the same when I found my 3DO for 35€. It was like going into deep, troubled waters (except that for the 3DO, you can "try the games" before buying them). And I got some memorables laughs when playing the 3Do, but also some long days glued to Gex and the Need for Speed, and Starblade, etc... games that make the system worthwhile. So maybe, a Jaguar would be nice to have. But I can't tell.it's a matter of preferences. Or looking cool because you have a Jag' !

famicommander #40 Posted December 14, 2014 I love my Jaguar. I have a Jag CD, a scart cable running into my Sony PVM, a Pro Controller, and most of the best games (Tempest 2000, AvP, Doom, Wolfenstein, Super Burnout, Rayman, Defender 2000, etc). There's a lot of fun to by had on a Jaguar but it's really more of an enthusiast console. A lot of the best games and accessories are expensive, there are hardware issues (especially with the CD), and many of its good games are available on PC/PS1/Saturn/3DO. In that sense I compare it a lot to the Atari 5200 and, to a lesser extent, the Neo Geo. If you don't already have all the "no brainer" consoles (2600, NES, Genesis, SNES, GBA, DS, PS1, PS2, gaming PC, etc) I'd say track all of those down before you get into stuff like the the Jaguar or Turbografx-16 or Colecovision. Those systems just have wider libraries with much better genre representation, so there's a much higher chance of finding a lot to keep you busy. But if you DO already have those systems, a Jaguar can be an awesome complementary console.
famicommander #41 Posted December 14, 2014 3DO has two good games I know of... Wing Commander III and Star Control 2. Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Gex, Road Rash, Return Fire, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Soccer Kid?
atarian63 #42 Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) It's a great system and a few new titles keep coming out from time to time, small but great following, Yes I would recommend especially if you can get a skunk board. I also own a Nuon system and THAT is a really small library but still fun and unique and a descendant of the Jaguar. Depends on what you want and what systems you have already. Seob #45 Posted December 14, 2014 (edited) I own one, and altough it's been a while since i played it, but i wouldn't want to miss it. Since my collecting goal is all but getting complete collections, it isn't a big problem. The only problem i have is that i want the "killer" games for each system i collect and given the price of these games for the Jaguar are high, making it not cheap. Gentlegamer #46 Posted December 14, 2014 It would be worth it if it were dirt cheap, as it should be. Otherwise, I feel no temptation to spend the money to obtain a console and its games.
TaskenLander #47 Posted December 15, 2014 Is there a difference between the black and gray colored models? I.E. was one more exclusive, etc, etc? Thanks
Austin #48 Posted December 15, 2014 Is there a difference between the black and gray colored models? I.E. was one more exclusive, etc, etc? Thanks There was only one colored type of console, just grey. Black cartridges do exist though and they are generally earlier launch-era games (Raiden, Trevor McFur, etc). BinaryStar #49 Posted December 15, 2014 (edited) Tempest 2000 question then: Is it the fact that Tempest 2000 simply delivered the goods as it were (combined with the fact it was custom made for Jaguar hardware and thus hard to replicate when converted to Saturn) that makes it so special....or fact that later attempts at replicating it's wonder (Typhoon on PC, Tempest X on PS1, Tempest 3000 on Nuon etc) have simply failed to equal it, let alone better it?. Basically IF Jeff sat down and out did Tempest 2000 say on PS4 with Tempest 4000, would Tempest 2000 still hold it's own and thus make the Jaguar the must have system it still is today for many, to this day, just to play it?. Jeff already has a sequel to this (TxK) out on PS Vita and due for release on PS4 very soon. I've played the PS4 version at a gaming expo this year and it's gorgeous and plays great but I still prefer playing Tempest 2000 with a spinnner. No analog stick or touchpad really gives the same degree of control for quickly maneuvering the webs. Edited December 15, 2014 by KidQuaalude
TaskenLander #50 Posted December 16, 2014 (edited) Temptation/curiosity is a motherf**ker.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-Jaguar-Black-Console-with-Aliens-Vs-Predator-Game-and-Controller-Works-/281532270552?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1123 Hopefully everything works well. This deal just seemed too decent to pass up. In time, I'll definitely want to get a composite cable and legit AC adapter, though. Stay tuned/thanks for the feedback, Mike Edited December 16, 2014 by TaskenLander
