ZylonBane #51 Posted March 29, 2003 If you used the two missiles and the ball for gold you could have up to 3 gold bars on one scanline and then do intelligent flicker on the players if they bunch up on the same scanline. Why bother with a potentially very flickery solution, when you can represent gold perfectly well using blocks on the playfield? My thoughts exactly (hint.. check out the webpage) The multi-cycle write isn't a big deal since all writes are done during the vertical retrace, rather than in the kernel. Oh, using the ball or missle sprites is a major pain, since you have to set or reset a bit flag. It just takes too many cycles to use.
