Greg2600 #126 Posted February 23, 2015 I broke down and I'm dumping all the games I can to my HD. I can't get my entire collection on the HD, but I can get most of the games. I figure I might as well save wear and tear on the laser if I can. I really need to look at getting a 500GB HD for this thing (never thought I'd fill up the 300GB one!) I'm using WinHiip, it's the only way. Then for that matter you should have gotten the SATA adapter! Anyone try Gradius III & IV with OPL? The compatibility list says it works but when I try it load it it hangs (orange screen). I dumped it to my HDD with Winhiip from my own disc so it can't be a bad iso. Worked for my on OPL over LAN, one of the first games I tested. Maybe not on HDD? Did you try it with HDLoader?
Tempest #127 Posted February 23, 2015 Then for that matter you should have gotten the SATA adapter! Meh, I got 80% of my library on the HDD along with the games I don't own so I'm happy. The only games I didn't put on are games I already played through and I probably won't get to again for a long time. No big loss. Worked for my on OPL over LAN, one of the first games I tested. Maybe not on HDD? Did you try it with HDLoader? No, I'll have to try that tonight. I'll also have to look and see if any of the other games I ripped from my own DVD's work as I haven't tried one of those yet. There are a few possibilities as to why it might not be working: 1. WinHiip isn't ripping DVD's right - Not likely but possible I suppose. 2. HDD Fragmentation - This was the last game I put on there to fill in a fragmentation hole. Maybe OPL doesn't like that for some reason? 3. Bad disc - I need to check this. I don't think I've ever played it before
Greg2600 #128 Posted February 23, 2015 OPL I think does not like fragmentation. Even using it over LAN (SMB) it's said that you need to clean up that folder on your PC.
Tempest #129 Posted February 23, 2015 Can you run the standard windows defrag command on the PS2 drive or will that muck things up?
Master Phruby #130 Posted February 23, 2015 I don't think the standard windows defrag will even know there is ps2 hard drive connected. When installing games, make sure you check the HDLoader compatibility chart. There are a lot of games that don't work with HDLoader. You may need to also set a certain set of modes to make the game work. http://www.absoluteanime.com/hdloader.html?page=r

S1500 #132 Posted February 23, 2015 Adding a hard drive to my PS2 has been on my bucket list for quite some time. Just never had the free time, or was able to track down the right software to do it. That empty HD area has been looking back at me for years.
Tempest #133 Posted February 23, 2015 I downloaded an ISO for it and it works. Must be my disc or something.

Same here.... right next to the "to play" pile, to "watch" pile, etc, etc...
Tempest #137 Posted February 24, 2015 It's actually not that hard. All you need is a compatible hard drive and an adaptor to plug it into your PC. Then you download some ISO images or rip them from your DVDs and put them on the HDD using Winhiip.
