Whatever you do, don't use the free stuff that came with the Indus GT. :)

SpeedCalc, as I recall, was a pretty good app.

It would be nice to see someone take advantage of an AtariMax cart and write a spreadsheet with many more functions available through banked memory... even have multiple tabs for spreadsheets, each a maximum of 16K (conveniently located in the RAM banking space)...

Syncalc was reasonably decent (if you'd never used Lotus 1-2-3 or such ;) ), and you likely can find a cracked version around. I'd check at Atarimania first.

Visicalc is excellent. I used it to keep my class names, test results and grade averages.

It has a 180 page manual on www.atarimania.com.

The manual is 20 megabytes, so I can't post it here. But here's Visicalc program.

Visicalc is professional in my opinion.

I have an unopened original Visicalc, It weighs 2 lb 5 oz, so would cost about $15 to ship.

I'd want $40 for the Visicalc packaging and shipping and my effort.

If you want to try it, hit '?' to get the letters of the actions to take. You need the manual to tell which letters do what.

Oh, BEST electronics sells it new for $30 I think, probably plus $20 ship. You'd get a warranty probably with them.

If you want to navigate around in Visicalc in an emulator, you need to turn off joystick emulation with arrow keys and cntrl. key.

You use cntrl-arrow to navigate the cells.

Great timing. i'm about to post the latest Inverse ATASCII podcast which features VisiCalc this Tuesday.

For spreadsheet, VisiCalc works great, but it can't utilize extended memory configs like the XL and XE. Still top notch though.

For Database: I covered Synfile+ in episode 6. Descent, but not great. I'm working on DataPerfect now and it is a lot better than SynFile. The biggest kick in the a$$ for SynFile is the extremely poor reporting abilities.

There are several different kinds of "finance" apps so you'll need to be more precise. I've worked with several of the older checkbook type ones and not found any worth their salt, some close, but with issues. I've not featured these in podcasts, but they are in the queue. Some of the newer ones may be better. See sig for podcast info.

If you are already here chances are you are using a PC/MAC, or even a smart phone. There are a few free ones like openoffice.org

Not sure how good the Atari ones are, but anyone doing serious business apps will just use their Windows/MAC PC.
