dougal22 #1 Posted January 7, 2015 I got given an Atari STe which was spares/repairs. My intention was to either fix it but if not I would take the TOS 2.06 ROM chips and shove them in my other 1040 STe. I could not switch the ROMS because my working 1040 STe has the TOS roms soldered on the board So i messed around and re-seated some Motorola PLCC and it now boots but with issues A: Sometimes gives lots of screen glitches whilst booting and even once in GEM B: Sometimes won't boot ... will do bombs on the screen and have glitches C: Disk drive will not do anything [ I Checked connections ] D: Sometimes it reads 1024 RAM, sometimes 2048 RAm and sometimes (most times) the full 4096KB Any help would be appreciated
ParanoidLittleMan #2 Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) You should re-seat RAM modules too as first measure. And if possible clean all contacts of socketed chips and sockets. Edited January 7, 2015 by ParanoidLittleMan

The issues seem to be: Sometimes gives glitches (colors & graphics) Sometimes reads the ram wrong Sometimes puts out bombs during the self/memory test at boot Always: Hear the disk drive spinning and the light remains on but NO clicking of any kind I'll do as you said and clean the contacts etc.. locnar77 #5 Posted January 8, 2015 I was thinking you might need a new PSU as well or recap
KLund1 #6 Posted January 22, 2015 1 or more ram simms might be bad. I had similar issues, swapped out simms for 'new' and all was fine. fyi good luck.
