atariguy1021
I first saw an adapter that allowed use of an Atari Jaguar controller on a 5200 years ago on the 8-bit lab rat site: http://www94.pair.com/jsoper/jag_adapter.html I acquired my first Jaguar last year and was surprised by how much I liked the controller so I revisited the aforementioned adapter to make the Jag controller compatible with other systems that require a keypad. It still looked... complex. I starting messing around with the Arduino a couple years ago and thought it could do most of the work here, eliminating a lot of components from the lab rat adapter. I still needed the digital to analog conversion portion since the Arduino doesn't output analog. I decided to try the same method in the lab rat adapter to accomplish that conversion, rather than using low_budget's circuit that I used for the MasterPlay clones that I made recently. The circuit seems to work well, with good compatibility, and eliminates the need for adjustment knobs. Here's a video of the adapter in action:

thegamezmaster
Very nice work! Wish I didn't lack the knowledge to make one myself! But great work!
atariguy1021
I'm going to build a prototype of this adapter. I've found an appropriate project box, designed a pcb, and ordered the parts. It will be my first time using a microcontroller outside of the Arduino, we'll see how it goes...

jsoper
It still looked... complex. Oh it was, but soldering was my passion back then. Now with kids, I can barely get out of bed in the morning. Seriously, it looks great. Congratulations.

The projects you and others shared back then is what inspired me to start tinkering with electronics in the first place, I really appreciate it! Papa
That'd be sweeeeet!! Although leaving out the return-to-center on the original sticks always was a mystery to me!?!? (.uh..I'm just gonna leave it pointing to the right so I can use my hand to punch buttons...or..other things... )

matthew954
I just scored a 5200 2 port without any controllers, so yes I'd be VERY interested in using a Jag gamepad for my soon to be shipped 5200!
